Let’s get one started in NC!!!!!!!!!
Jefferson and Franklin would be great names for states.
Hamilton not bad either. Madison perhaps sullied by the city in Wisconsin.
Texas could be chopped up to give state names like Houston, Bowie, Travis, Crockett
California could be similarly cut up to give names like Fremont, Kearny, or Sanford.
The first state that secedes or splits into a conservative area, I will sell my house, pack up my money, guns and ammo, and go to defend that state from tyranny.
New states cannot be formed from the territory of existing states without the consent of their state legislatures - movements like this are always going to founder long before they get anywhere unless the other parts of the state also feel like they would be happier with a division. And with a few exceptions like New York, I just don’t see that happening.
It would not be difficult at all for Northern Colorado to pickup additional territory (although not much population, unless you consider cattle) from adjacent states as well.
It may be the least populous, but it would be one of the best-armed states!
Got a notion here.
Solid conservative majority in Congress and in a number of states.
Split TX into 5 solid conservative majority states and 2 liberal ones. They now have 10 conservative senators and 4 liberals.
Rinse and repeat for other states as needed. Permanent conservative majority, at least in the Senate.
And perfectly constitutional.
You said; “The first state that secedes or splits into a conservative area, I will sell my house, pack up my money, guns and ammo, and go to defend that state from tyranny.”
I have 160 acres of ranch land in Tehama County in Northern California this was part of Jefferson way back, so I’m hoping that the border crosses me
It’s fun to think about slicing off Chicago and the collar counties here in Illinois. Used to say they could turn the toll plazas on tht tollways into Points of Entry, but Blago tore ‘em out when he installed I-Pass electronic tags ;-)
We are told that Chicago is the “economic engine” of the state. To which I say “Fine, let’s see how well that engine runs WITH NO DAMN FOOD!”
I’ve been pondering that idea as well - have all the states with republican legislatures split into two or more states, thus dramatically increasing the republican representation in the Senate. The democrats couldn’t do a thing to stop it...
I wish Conservative Southern NM would split off from Socialist Northern NM.
Or if Texas secedes, they will invade and take over everything south of the Manzano mountains.
Well, yeah, they could.
Requires a majority vote in both houses of Congress, and the Democrats control the Senate.
And I suspect quite a number of Republicans and even conservatives would object. While it is in perfect compliance with the letter of the Constitution, it pretty clearly violates its spirit.
And, of course, the Democrats could follow suit in states they control.
Since the Legislature and Governor both have to agree to this and both branches are Democrat controlled this has zero chance of happening.
In this present American political environment, with portions of States actually pursuing to secede from the other portions of those States, I ask:
1. How long in time might it be before it comes to pass, for a State, in it’s entirety, to pursue the same course of action?
2. Should that moment in time come before this nation, to follow the notion further, how much time would elapse, before there would be a State(s) Secession Convention, again?
3. Would people remember that from the time of the last ‘Convention’, it was only a few short weeks that passed, when the ‘Secessionists’ physically attacked a ‘Federal’ military installation?
This whole business ... I understand it, yet it bothers me to my innards, because this is NOT the America I fought for!
I’m in the central San Joaquin Valley, which has long attempted to split from the parasitism of Coastal California. But when you ask a dog and his fleas to vote on whether or not to maintain their relationship, nobody wonders how the vote goes.
Personally, I have no problem whatsoever “letting go” of liberals. They can have all the land they want within reason. Take more than half... who cares. Go and have fun. I hope they are happy, healthy and wealthy... as long as it’s away from me somewhere. I just wish they afforded me the same luxury.
“Since the Legislature and Governor both have to agree to this and both branches are Democrat controlled this has zero chance of happening.”
Yup. They’re getting ahead of themselves. Just like the Texas seceshers are getting ahead of themselves.
Gandhi taught a very important lesson that American seceshers for the most part have yet to pick up. It’s more important that the larger state/nation wants YOU to leave first.
“Ive been pondering that idea as well - have all the states with republican legislatures split into two or more states, thus dramatically increasing the republican representation in the Senate.”
Congress and the President would have to agree to more states.
I understand, but when the America you fought for becomes the America that fights you, what are your choices?
1. How long in time might it be before it comes to pass, for a State, in its entirety, to pursue the same course of action?
I think it’s coming pretty soon. Serious talk and possibly action within 5 years.
“2. Should that moment in time come before this nation, to follow the notion further, how much time would elapse, before there would be a State(s) Secession Convention, again?”
Shortly thereafter. The electoral math would force it. Let’s take the example of Texas. If Texas seceded, it would take 38 electoral college seats with it. That would effectively make it near impossible for a conservative political candidate to ever win the Presidency in what remains. The writing would be on the wall for the remaining conservative states: secede or accept permanent political disenfranchisement at the Federal level.
“3. Would people remember that from the time of the last Convention, it was only a few short weeks that passed, when the Secessionists physically attacked a Federal military installation?”
I find it more likely that the other side simply moves in with force to put down an insurrection. And a lot of Americans die.
“This whole business ... I understand it, yet it bothers me to my innards, because this is NOT the America I fought for!”
Amen. I’m anti-secession. I just don’t see it having a happy ending.
