House GOP Plan Would Keep Government Shut, Raise Debt Limit
Roll Call ^ | 10/10/13 | Matt Fuller and Steven Dennis

Updated 10:49 a.m. | House Republicans are discussing a plan that would include a six-week debt limit increase without reopening the government, sources confirmed to CQ Roll Call.

The plan would prompt another showdown with the White House, which has insisted that Republicans agree to reopen the government without partisan riders or concessions before negotiations begin.

Even tea party leader Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., seemed open to the idea. ”Well I think if that gets us to where we need to be, it may be something we need to consider, because the one thing we won’t do is put the full faith and credit of the United States at risk. It’s foolish, and I don’t think that’s going to happen,” she said.

Some conservatives, meanwhile, have continued to push this morning for attaching some GOP demands to even a short-term debt limit increase.

President Barack Obama has indicated he would sign a short-term measure provided it did not have partisan concessions added on.

and, it sounds like they’ve given up on defunding Obamacare.

Who’s suprised? We know they’ll cave, it’s just a matter of when.

“President Barack Obama has indicated he would sign a short-term measure provided it did not have partisan concessions added on.”

The arrogant president can sign or not sign whatever comes across his desk. All the house needs to do is work with the Senate and if they don’t want to work, let the house of cards fall.

The media wants everyone to believe that not raising the U.S. debt limit will result in default and world economic collapse.

come one people this is just more scare tactics to get the Republicans to cave. Don’t give in Republicans . don’t believe the media .

the media cried wolf with global warming, sequester, gov shutdown, fiscal cliff bs, etc. etc. that are all imaginary hobgoblins

don’t believe the media who are practically all registered democrats

don’t raise the debt limit. keep the useless government shut down.

What I find interesting about this is that Bohner + CO were originally saying that the debt limit was the issue to use against Obama, not the CR.

And opinion polls had supported this back then too,

And now pressure is mounting by GOP $$$$ groups for House to pass a clean (but short) debt limit increase.
stock market, bond rates, all scaring them.

“and, it sounds like they’ve given up on defunding Obamacare.”

That has been off the table since they starting pushing for the 1 year delay, I think.

The payouts (campaign/retirement) to these sleaze balls from the insurance companies is just too much to resist.

I DON'T GIVE TWO HOOTS IN HELL ABOUT THE DEBT LIMIT GAME.

DEFUND OBAMACARE!!!!

That's what all this is about.
I'm not interested in the Washington Clatterbones using the shutdown as a tool for negotiation.

KEEP IT SHUT UNTIL OBAMACARE IS DEADER THAN A DOORNAIL.

Sounds to me like Obama has privately threatened to pull this Article IV crap and raise it himself. They are trying to head him off and stop the precedent until they can come up with a better strategy.

If I am not mistaken, I believe Mike Lee is in favor in keeping the focus on defunding ObummerCare through spending bills and deal with the debt limit increase later. The concern has been that squishes in the House would try to tie the CR negotiations with the debt limit increase and create a “grand bargain” where the Dhimms would give up a pittance and the Dhimms would get the Republicans to back off of any ObummerCare defunding effort and, in addition, increase the debt limit.

If so, it is probably best to punt the debt limit negotiation for 3 months, to keep the eye on the ObummerCare defunding effort, particulary in light of the continuing stories of the exchange website failures and premiums skyrocketing. I think the Dhimms would like to do anything to get ObummerCare off the radar, which means the Republicans should not let go of it.

If the debt limit increase is small enough to make the Anointed One come back begging for money again in 2 or 3 months, more pain can be applied to him at that point.

And that does us absolutely no good whatsoever!! I suspected the RINOs would fold on the debt limit.

Hold the line, Mr. Speaker!! Obama’s getting desperate!! We can do this!!

A one year delay is not such a great thing. I needs o be shut down AT LEAST until the 2014 election if the vile stench of Obamacare is allow to keep festering.

Make certain that it is in everyone’s nostrils right before the election.

I think if it is to impact elections, it needs to fly as is so people feel the pain for the next year.

What was the objective?
I think the objective has been met.

Make Obamacare the issue.
Make Democrats OWN Obamacare.
Take Obama down a few notches.
Make it hard for Libs to even think about moving any of THEIR new programs forward at this time.

Now, I do wish more Republicans understood that the US will NOT default even if no deal on anything is reached this year, but so what?
Obama has spooked everyone, so let Obama be seen as the bad guy.
