We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404

t’s been one full week since the flagship technology portion of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) went live. And since that time, the befuddled beast that is Healthcare.gov has shutdown, crapped out, stalled, and mis-loaded so consistently that its track record for failure is challenged only by Congress.

The site itself, which apparently underwent major code renovations over the weekend, still rejects user logins, fails to load drop-down menus and other crucial components for users that successfully gain entrance, and otherwise prevents uninsured Americans in the 36 states it serves from purchasing healthcare at competitive rates – Healthcare.gov’s primary purpose. The site is so busted that, as of a couple days ago, the number of people that successfully purchased healthcare through it was in the “single digits,” according to the Washington Post.

We, the taxpayers, seem to have forked up more than $634 million of the federal purse to build the digital equivalent of a rock.

Like all things government-run, they will tell us that if they just had more money and more staff, they could get it perfected.

If you were a competent software engineer, where would you prefer to work? Google? Facebook? LinkedIn? Twitter? Instagram? Some hot startup? Or on a communist-inspired, centrally controlled “marketplace” for government-mandated insurance that you have to purchase at the threat of impoverishment or imprisonment?

Is this result really any surprise?

According to Debbie Wasserman Schultz the site can handle 50,000 a day. That’s 18,250,000 per year. So how are 30 million to sign up by The March enrollment close date?

The other question I have if many of these democrat constituents are too stupid or lazy to get ID allowing them to vote in elections, how are they going to successfully sign up for Obamacare?

Yet more theft of taxpayer monies. Aren’t there any prosecutors around? Maybe a few investigative accountants to find all the stolen money. Money has trails. This just one small area of theft. Most Clown Prince nobama programs have been rife with theft starting with TARP and the Stimulus variants. We are talking trillions of dollars under these thieving fool criminals. Why are the legal processes of putting these criminals in prison not working? Your children and their children will be paying for this. It isn’t going to be pretty.

Let’s do a little bit of government application development math, shall we?

The $600+ billion being spoken of is just the contract for the (Canadian) firm that developed the site. Once you add in all the GS15 and SES members of various working groups, plus high dollar PMO contractors, plus really high dollar contactor consultants/SMEs from places like MITRE, plus IVV, plus all the gvt and IT technical folks (things like oversight/coordination, release management, etc) the price tag is a LOT higher.

I’d say 2.5x higher, minimum. So more like $1.6 billion.

I could write a fully-functional, transactional website with enterprise databases and high-availability web clusters behind a load balancer for less than $1,000. This is corruption on a scale we’ve never seen.

Any federal agency is like a jukebox: If you want to feed it quarters (today, dollar bills), it takes them. It will take as many as you want to give it. Time to stop feeding the dammed thing.

This is an excellent example of why conservatives are right about the ability of the federal government to deliver services.

Great points! Once you add in all the government oversight and their multiple awards to outside ‘experts’, the cost is far far higher. More than an F35 program, a Marine 1 or similar defense contracts. What until the year over year costs start coming in...for upgrades, maintenance, etc.

Thanks!

Hadnt considered ongoing maintenace yet. I’d love to take a good look at the architecture of the thing. Probably a whole slew of COTS products strung together with a massive amount of customization. Literally the worse of both worlds (build vs buy) that’ll be a costly O&M nightmare not too far down the road.

ID to successfully sign up for Obamacare

I was thinking about that the other day and wanted to look up if an ID was required to sign up for Obamacare. If actually need an ID, this is an issue we need to hang around the Libs neck........
