Let me relay a story associated with a trip and hike at the Cuyahoga Valley Ohio and Erie Canal Tow-Path bike trail. The other day I went for a hike and was able to talk with a couple of millenial twenty somethings on the trail to Szalay`s farm from Peninsula, OH. The Obozo bots were dismayed and personally offended by the closing of "their trail" by the NPS. One even questioned dear leader and actually admitted that this was going too far, this hurt the people in a personal way. I questioned, listened, and refrained from much negative comment as I wanted an honest response. I concluded that this issue has some legs even with the latte sipping, Birkenstock crowd. Opinions freepers?

After this fiasco, I hope the House passes a bill to disarm the Park rangers. They should not be armed, period.

My family owns vacation property (cabin) that requires use of a Forest Service road to access it. The property is not on federal land though. There are ~20 property owners up there, many of them liberal, a few of them conservative, most of them low information voters.

This past weekend I sent an email to all of the other property owners asking them if anyone had been up there to make sure the road had not been blocked. I got a couple snarky responses, but I sent them the article about cabin owners on Lake Mead being kicked out.

I explained that if the FS could do that to the people at Lake Mead, the equivalent would be them gating our road and putting a sign on it saying we couldn't even walk in to our properties. I think I got my point across.

So far, the FS has done nothing, but I wouldn't put it past them. We're just keeping our heads down hoping they don't remember us....

Not just National Parks but National Forest which is a big part of the west (among other areas).

You done good. If you start lecturing them, they’re going to stop up their ears. But if they start thinking - and I think a lot of millenials (and even a lot of park rangers charged with enforcing this horrible stuff) are beginning to think - who knows what will happen?

They were a thoroughly politically indoctrinated generation, but enough of the American spirit somehow crept in that they’re a little annoyed by this overreach. That is, they never thought before that this country is not about the success of “the government,” it’s about the freedom and happiness and success of its citizens - such as them.

re: “Barrycade”

I love it! Akin to “hoovervilles” only in this case it truly fits.

We are a nation of non-creative wusses.

We can’t have 500-20,000 people doing flash mobs on the barrycades, picking them up, and delivering them to a location on federal land where they are CONSIDERABLY out of the way?

I cannot believe that people are just standing and looking at the barrycades like cattle at a gate. Pulling my hair out.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3076806/posts Are there cracks forming in our armor? We need to keep up the pressure on the usual RINO suspect.

I’m encouraged the millenials you spoke with blame Obastard. I’m expecting people to be angry, but at us.

If the Democrats are determined not to let a crisis go to waste, the Republicans are wonderfully accomplished at wasting a crisis. About 12 hours ago I published this:

If Boehner had an ounce of common sense or even a millimeter of public relations sense, he and the Republican caucus would be at Andrews Air Force Base to meet the next flag draped coffins to act as honor guards.

I just heard on the radio that the Secretary of Defense Hagel is down at Andrews Air Force Base meeting the plane. Meanwhile, Jay Carney is shucking and jiving in an effort to turn back blame for this fiasco on the Republicans for improperly writing a law protecting veterans and for shutting down the government in the first place. The radio report left it quite open that this was the reason for widows and orphans being deprived of money to bury fallen heroes.

If we want to know why the Republicans cannot win a public-relations battle we ought to understand that, yes, we have the media to overcome but we do not overcome their resistance with talking heads. We need to do show and tell so the media will cover it. Next, I have been preaching since the Sarah Palin fiasco that principal Republican leaders should have a staff not just of speechwriters but of comedians who can break through the media wall with satire and humor.

These guys have millions of dollars to squander on repetitive TV ads but they have not a fraction of this amount to hone their message. These old bulls in the House and the Senate are 60 and 70 years old and they wonder why they are losing the vote of the 20 and 30-year-olds.

Millennials are Libertarian leaning. They believe in things like social justice and community service, but don’t trust the government to be involved.

They voted for Obama from a brand image marketing perspective. Doing so made them feel good about themselves. Just like owning an iPhone does.

Enough woke up to Obama in his first term to cause a six point drop in support for him in the 2012 election.

The question is, where can Conservatives find enough common cause with them to win elections, without selling out on core principles? Very tough question to answer, but if a happy medium can be found the Dems may be relegated to minority party status for 20-30 years. Especially since a lot of Obamas actions are driving them in our direction.

There’s really nothing to be so concerned about. If you don’t count Miriam Carey and a few other people, our government hasn’t actually started shooting down people in the streets.
