Some Catholic priests under contract or GS (general schedule) to the military are not allowed to offer the Catholic sacraments--including saying Mass, consecrating marriages, or performing baptisms--on military property during the government shutdown, and if they do, even on a volunteer basis, they risk being arrested, according to the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.

barrys played the joker...and the jokes gonna be on him...
It’s a problem.
Especially with the USCCB advocating for Amnesty, with no such regard.
Priests are people and they need prayers.
I do have a couple of venues that are in obedience with the Church who do speak very openly about the disaster of abortion.
They are MORE in keeping with the true Church than anyone not speaking openly about it.
it is here, where people are sociologically aware.
Abortion IS the problem.
According to Pope Paul VI, and the Vatican and Pope John Paul II in his Theology of the Body, however, and this is very inconvenient to people, and is one reason pastors are reticent; Birth control is the root cause. So they find that talking about this causes people to march out.
I know that’s no reason to not speak the truth. I have to seek out churches where the priests tell how to vote and why, and who are honest about all of this.
Anyway, they need prayers
It’s a property dispute now, being used as a hammer. Non contract personnel (volunteers) can not “trespass” a military post, by fiat Obamao.
Mass is offered off post and soldiers and personnel are encouraged to attend. I hope they do.
We’re going to go there? Really?
The Archdiocese would never refuse to give a sacrament in a war zone out of fear of the enemy.
In this case, the Archdiocese, which has rules and regs that honor the Govt WHILE it prioritizes Its Canon Law, will defer to a local parish.
All Masses and services on base are subject as is the medical system, and the commissary, to being shut down and patrons are warned to have a backup.
The priests are horrified about this, but it is, ironically, the civilian electorate which has leadership of the military. The DOD Chief is a civilian.
Please, call your congressmen and tell them, who are in charge of representing you and your military, that you won’t stand for this.
The priests and the military deserve a boatload more than blame.
UGH
I have not yet heard nor read of any such incidences but I suspect that they will be forthcoming.
They should fight their way onto the base, through the checkpoint???
Better the enlisted should fight their way off base, down to the nearest Mass.
“...So they find that talking about this causes people to march out...”
Then so be it. You pretty much know who your friends are - and aren’t - at that point. And I think that is what is needed.
I hear and understand you. I’ve just got no patience anymore for dancing around the edges, and no patience for those that do (not referencing you there).
“...Mass is offered off post and soldiers and personnel are encouraged to attend. I hope they do...”
In droves and “en masse” ...
I have not yet heard nor read of any such incidences but I suspect that they will be forthcoming.
Nope, we won’t see any Priests arrested. I hope I am wrong.
I have known Priests who would have already been arrested.
The priests’ primary duty PRIMARY duty, is to minister to those in combat.
They deploy just the same as infantry and fighter squadrons, and into the same zones.
They are ready to go over and get killed, and they do.
Their mission to take care of those at home, where other parishes preside and are readily available, is secondary.
The priests want this attended to more than we do, more than we know.
The archbishop has been all over this.
if a child needs to be baptized, any priest can do that in a minute One minute, especially if the parents will show a local parish priest that they’ve attended preparation at the military base, and have family coming in for the celebration.
PULEEZE dont’ blame the priests. It is not their doing. It is Obama. He is doing this to annoy. He’d love to have us blaming priests.
The priests and the military deserve a boatload more than blame.
UGH
When I see some Priests being arrested, I’ll agree.
I agree.
No. It’ll be histrionics for nothing. And you’d want more.
When I see some civilians getting loud, I’ll believe you
Many posters seem to think these priests reside on base and are passively taking hiatus from there priestly duty, uninterested, disengaged.
They can not even ENTER the base to perform all these heroics you expect of them. Every priest celebrates Holy Mass wherever he is, and even alone if no one comes. The Mass does not require an audience, a “congregation” to see it unfold, as the priest makes sacrifice.
I’m not blaming the Priests. I want to see them stand up.
I’ve known Priests who would have already been arrested.
The stupid part of this is that the CR that was signed into law for the military explicitly authorized pay for civilians that provide service to the military, which clearly includes these chaplains. The Obama administration is actually denying pay to people who are authorized to receive pay.
The blame goes to Obama and his supporters.
Take your priest animosity somewhere else. It has no power over me.
I have yet to see any further stories on this fiasco.
Im betting that if Catholic Priests are coming under the gun that so would Episcopalian Priests and other Protestant Pastors as well.
if obama thinks he’s playing with children....with this one hes got another thing or TWO coming.
“KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) The closure of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has sparked a call for a protest.”
Here you go. Try something like this, unless you think some priests have more power over government or are less worthy of a civilian protest.
This is how it works.
This will explode before long. The mask is off the Marxists now. Many were charmed and naive, voting for this communist, but these wicked events are so glaring, even the buck stupid are lost to him.
Street clashes are next, and imminent. You can feel it.
