Obama Administration Denies Mass to Catholics
Apparently, a priest was denied access to a military chapel this weekend. Father Ray Leonard serves at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in Georgia but because of the government shutdown, he wasn’t allowed to go to celebrate Mass this past weekend.
He is contracted by the Defense Department to meet the spiritual needs of Catholics, but not now. The chapel doors were locked and the sign said, “Shutdown: No Catholic service till further notice.”
Father Leonard said the following:
“This is our church, Catholics have an expectation and obligation to attend Mass and we were told, ‘No you can’t go to church this week…“ My parishioners were upset. They were angry and dismayed. They couldn’t believe that in America they’d be denied access to Mass by the government.”

Canon Law gives the proper guidelines.
That is all you need.
Plus the good reason of necessity, such as religious persecution and a reason for not being able to get to a church.

This is a religion with a history of gathering in caves when under prosecution. If the Good Lord is deciding to turn bread into His Flesh I’m going to guess He’s not limited to special locations.

Dereliction of duty is an Impeachable Offense, as stipulated in the US Constitution. Dereliction of duty is also a US Military offense subject to a Courts Martial.
Will our sorry Congressional RINOs do their usual kid gloves, “boys will be boys” approach to Obama’s numerous violations of the US Constitution, or will they FINALLY draw up The Articles of Impeachment for B. Hussein Obama?

And I was defending the priest. He was in an unusual situation. And he wants attention paid to the religious persecution aspect.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...”

Nonsense. And if the space needed consecrating, the priest could do it on the spot. Masses have been given in sports' stadiums, arenas, parks, and in storage compartments aboard Navy ships (speaking from experience).
I'd like to know the answer to that question too.
My Aunt had a chapel in her house—formerly a bedroom. A couple of priests were permitted to say an occasional Mass there, although I believe they needed the Bishop’s permission.
Perhaps he could get his Bishop’s permission to say Mass in the parking lot or elsewhere. But on that particular day he presumably had none of the equipment needed to do so, since he didn’t expect to find the chapel locked, and everything he needed was inside.
In any case, I would consider Mass attendance to be a NECESSITY to Catholics in our armed forces, and this is clearly a violation of their rights. This should be just about the LAST expense to be cut, and certainly it was evil to lock the chapel if the Priest was willing to do his job without pay.
This is a totally egregious act by King Barry. Priests are willing to volunteer; it's not a matter of money.
I wonder sometimes, if they really make the connection.

A contract priest is not an active duty military chaplain. It is possible he is a retired chaplain, a civilian hospital chaplain, or even an NG/AR chaplain not on training most weekends. It is very likely that he is a civilian priest who has been contracted to provide Mass due to the lack of an active Catholic Chaplain to perform that function at that naval installation.
There is nothing stopping another priest, not this one with whom a contract exists, from performing a service at some other location on that base. Nor is there anything preventing that priest from having a lay Eucharistic minister deliver consecrated host to those parishoners and having a lay led service.
Nor is there anything preventing the priest in question from voluntarily leading a service off base for these parishoners.
Experience is one thing, and such practices, such as these, as well as Extraordinary ministry of the Eucharist, certainly lead people to greater disrespect of the Eucharist and the sacredness of the church building, as well as the office and position and respect for the priesthood, Canon Law has guidelines.
And my statement regarded the priest who was bringing attention to the religious persecution present in his situation last week.
In observing Chaplains in the military, provisions are made. Jeep hoods were utilized in the ETO and in Viet Nam.
Worse, in the ME, things are difficult enough. They were when Bush was CIC.
This priest cannot very well accept, on the spot, that he has to accommodate for religious persecution on or near a base in the United States.
Beside the fact that he has to have equipment and he wants dispensation from the bishop of armed services.
As cavalier as it may seem, now, priests, when they celebrate mass in a basketball arena, have provisions, vestments, for instance.
This priest cannot very well spin around, aside from the shock of ministering to people who serve our country to protect religious liberty, the right to practice our faith, and use the hood of his Subaru, using a bag of wonder bread to consecrate.
As you can see by the photo in post 40, the priest, likely Father Capodanno, is equipped. He is wearing vestments and has hosts.(Hosts cannot be anything but pure bread.
He has dispensation, in this case, by being in a war zone. and he can administer the Eucharist in keeping with the Church.
Morphing that into telling this priest of last week to ignore Canon Law, deal with the fact That since Obama wants us to live outside of our Church’s teachings, that we should just blow them off, people do it all the time only a bad idea in my opinion, it is the teaching of the Church .
the military has its own diocese. The Archbishop of Military services presides.
Last weekend, he made this statement:
“In very practical terms it means Sunday Mass won’t be offered,” Archbishop Timothy Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services told me. “If someone has a baptism scheduled, it won’t be celebrated.”
Exactly. When they get special permission and all the equipment necessary to have three Sunday Masses off base somewhere, then, we could give them some attention, since the military actually works to ensure, among other unalienable rights, our ability to freely associate to practice our religion.
While I agree that this was "a totally egregious act", the king unfortunately wields ownership rights allowing him to lock the doors. The priest/bishop has no claim on unfettered access to the property. The diocese needs to provide their own property if they want to off mass with unrestricted access.
