With the US government shutdown well into its second week, growing numbers of Americans are gleefully engaging in what they call civil disobedience by tossing aside cones or jumping over government shutdown-inspired barricades around national monuments, malls, and park entrances.

Yet the barricaded federal lands issue has particularly focused on whether its really necessary to close off public lands that arent regularly patrolled, that are leased to private entities, or are simply open-air monuments without pay gates. For some areas, millions of dollars in tourism revenue is at stake.
Weve gone from this land is your land, this land is my land, to the government saying this land is its land, writes University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds in an e-mail. President Obama said that government is just a word for the things we do together. Apparently that includes kicking WWII veterans off their memorial.

One area where the government seems to have the clear right to put up barricades or closed signs is where there are pay gates to enter an area. But for parks and monuments where people can simply wander onto federal lands, blocking access touches on a a huge [legal] gray area, says Dale Goble, a land policy expert who specializes in the sagebrush rebellions of the West.
One issue that remains unclear is the legal foundation for those closure protocols, including what authority rangers have to either remove trespassers or even ticket and arrest them. If the rangers dont have that power, then many of the barricaded areas are, by default, still open to the public.

It’s good to see that Americans aren’t rolling over for the brownshirts.

#2 needs a fly buzzing around.
:)
Thats a fairly easily acccomplished task if I can find the original photoshop file stored with a name....that I can pout together with the image,,,,
I often name files with a string of letters or numbers...in leiu of a real name....particularly if the final result is going to be a small banner file....such as this stuff.
That just got you on some super secret NSA watch list.
How can the Govt be shut down when there are unusual numbers of semi-automatic wielding Govt thugs running around, bullying U.S. citizens (but not illegals...)?
Seems if the Govt is shut down, the Brown/Black/Gray Shirt Obama militia would be furloughed along with the Govt employees whose job is to actually help people, but who Obaba furloughed and warned them not to even volunteer.
It’s already excellent...but a fly would add the extra little touche’.
:)
Cheap tricks....:)
Ping to post 16, K!
I was law-enforcement commissioned with the NPS, but did not want to be a full-time jackboot. I just carried my sidearm in my backpack most of the time. Even 25+ years ago when the gun-carrying goons were first coming out in the parks, there were some scary thugs around. And, of course now, it’s way worse.
During elk season the mantra "don't mess with Texas" applies in Colorado. Tell a group of Texas hunters the land is closed. The ranger will be gutted and strapped to the hood of the Suburban.
I wonder if the Feds are out escorting the open range cattle off of Federal grazing lands.
I may yet fire Up Adobe Flash and Adobe photoshop to add the fly to my barry portrait..
Maybe, we should declare the southern border to be a WWII memorial.
You are correct.
