I am now occupying the building at this time.
And with that one decision restaurant owner Glenn Helseth joined the ranks of Americans whove decided to defy the strong-arm tactics of the National Park Service.
For the past 11 years Helseth and his wife have operated the Carrot Tree Kitchens Restaurant inside the historic Cole Digges House in Yorktown, Va.
At least 20 of Helseth's longtime employees are facing unemployment. They cant make rent and some are faced with choosing between buying food or buying medicine.
The National Park Service owns and operates the building. So when the government shut down on Oct. 1, the Helseths were given 48 hours to pack up and move out.
The couple also owns a restaurant on Jamestown Island. They had to close that restaurant after the National Park Service blocked access to the island.

At this point it is probably contracts be damned as the NPS has already breeched the contract most likely. And contracts don’t mean squat if you are out of business.
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;
The constitution only gives the federal government authority over District of Columbia and places such as forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards and other needful buildings.
The national parks should indeed be handed over to the states, as should the ‘wilderness areas’.
//Is this what you call Civil Disobedience?//
Only a little bit. I think actual Civil Disobedience is much more, but it is a start. Every little bit helps.
Congress needs to strip them of their law enforcement duties and privileges and then defund them for anything more than standing watch in their fire towers.
It isn’t just congress, the Sentate is a big part of this, not just Zero.
Many States have State Forests, so they can readily absorb the management tasks.
Occupy one’s own property and business! How radical can that be construed to be ?!? Hold, for they cannot prevail with the type of despotism they are tryihg to impose.

If I was anywhere near a national park I’d be in the rangers’ faces. Not screaming. Simply asking them why they would turn on their own people. And when they say “It’s my job.”
I’d quote Cool Hand Luke: “Sayin’ it’s your job don’t make it right, boss.” Then I’d say I wish terrible things befall upon you.
Thanx. Haven’t even started to review the authority/legal histroy.
Absolutely.
Do park rangers have arrest powers?
The House of Representatives has been sending individual spending bills to the Senate, which Sen. Reid keeps rejecting because BHO2 says he will veto them all.
This is BHO2’s fault - pure and simple.
We have no need to raise the debt limit. We can get along fine on everything, even paying the interest on the debt. What is bankrupting us is Obamacare and all the billions of do$$ars BHO2 sends overseas.
All of the above are part of the Interior Department.
nope
Not only that, under Obama, cool new uniforms!
It is their fortune to get a job working for us (work?). And as employers we have expectations that include an oath to meet those expectations to manage and protect our Country’s resources which include our fellow man - WTF happened to the process that brought us these jerks?
We need those “100 million of us” to vote these a-holes out of office......
Insane ins’t it? That it would be defiance to keep your business up and running.
