As an aside, a very old version of the Boy Scout Handbook had a first aid example of a boy applying direct pressure to a person who had two different varicose veins burst at the same time.
Even at the time, I realized that while one varicose vein might burst, the idea of two of them doing so on the same person at the same time sounded unreal. Then the light dawned that it was in effect teaching wartime battlefield first aid, but didn’t want to come out and say so.
