On the seventh day of the shutdown, President Obama called on House Republican leaders Monday to allow a vote immediately on a short-term measure to reopen government operations.
Mr. Obama said he strongly suspects there are enough votes in the House to reopen the government today.
The truth of the matter is, there are enough Republican and Democratic votes in the House of Representatives right now to end this shutdown immediately with no partisan strings attached, Mr. Obama said during a surprise visit to FEMA headquarters in the district. The House should hold that vote today.
The president said he is happy to talk to Republicans about budget issues, but not under threat of a shutdown or a government default.
Were not going to establish that pattern, Mr. Obama said, urging the GOP to move beyond this manufactured crisis.
Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, has said there are not enough votes in the House to pass a clean resolution to reopen the government temporarily. He said Democrats must accept changes to Obamacare before Republicans will agree to a budget deal.
Providing fairness to the American people, under Obamacare, is all were asking for, he said.
Mr. Obama dared Mr. Boehner to hold a vote.

The risk is, there just may be enough RINOs who would support the so-called "clean" CR to pass the d*mn thing. Not a risk worth taking....

Somebody needs to remind Barry that he doesn’t run the House of Representatives. He’s confusing America with some African turd world country again. We don’t do kings and dictators here.
As more and more people hear the Obamacare horror stories, support for Obamacare will go down. Hang in there, Pubbies!
If the senate would just vote on the clean CRs that the house has sent, most of the government would be open for business already.
And I still can’t believe how that idiot Chuck Hagel gets away with what he did, unncessarily throwing 400,000 people out of work for a week, when they actually HAD funding.
Instead, they make him sound like a hero for “bringing them back” — when they should never have been gone.
“Mr. Obama dared Mr. Boehner to hold a vote”
well lookee lookee, the “Great Uniter” is at it for another day
his obnoxious behavior is actually making it easier for Boehner to do the right thing
Hmmm...listen Zero: you are the Executive ONLY.
You execute the wishes of the People. You do NOT get to demand squat.
The zerocare debate is not partisan its a matter of fairness for WE the American People who are faced with higher premiums, lower service levels and larger deductibles to pay for your voters.Scru dat!
Everyone up there is too scared to say it but I am not: Eff off.
So Harry Reid does not have to when he chooses but Boehner should..........
Sounds like Barry Cades is getting a leetle desparate. :-)
Fake Constitutional scholar is showing his profound ignorance.
He can demand until he's blue in the face, This is NOT "the hood."
Some things have not changed, since the creation of the Republic : The three branches are coequal, but have always been viewed in order of priority to achieve the traditional roles of governance. Legislature, Executive and Judicial, in that order.
The House has always been viewed as the body closest to the ultimate authority, We The People.
They need neither your permission nor your approval.
The House is also the ONLY and final body which may initiate revenue Bills and Laws.
Deal with it, Barry.
To the House : Do your job. 5 years of no budget shouldn't create a panic for the GOP. We KNOW who disdains the rule of law and the provisions of the Constitution.
STAND FIRM!
No no no no no no. He didn’t care about Republican votes when they “deemed” ObamaScare passed, they wouldn’t allow Republican input when this monstrocity was drawn up-it’s all theirs now, and needs to remain so. He’s just trying to share the blame now that ObamaScare is being shown to be the fiasco we always knew that it was.
I did notice. Public opinion must be with the Republicans, or they’d be stirring up “shutdown fever” with gusto.
He has no right to demand a vote. He’s talking like a dictator.
“Some Republican lawmakers dispute the speakers assessment of the likely vote tally, saying there are probably enough bipartisan votes to approve a short-term budget without addressing Obamacare or any other legislation.”
***
So who are these “some lawmakers” and those “bipartisan” reps who would vote for this? I want to know...so they can be voted out next time they are up for re-election.
We don’t need no steeking vote! Hold tough Boehner.
HOLY CRAP
He must be polling HORRIBLY
This is called ‘a blink’.
