That was awkward.
In the clearest sign yet of the potent effect of the government shutdown on the Virginia governors race, Republican Ken Cuccinelli avoided being photographed with Ted Cruz at a gala they headlined here Saturday nighteven leaving before the Texas senator rose to speak.
Backstage, a source said, Cuccinelli urged Cruz to work with Democrats to end the federal shutdown. But he did not make that point, or even acknowledge Cruz, in short public comments to some 1,100 social conservatives.
Cruz has become the face of GOP intransigence, and the conservative attorney generals effort to distance himself from congressional Republicans reflects how damaging Cuccinelli realizes a prolonged shutdown may be for his campaign.

Another coward republican revealed.
He’s going to lose now, guaranteed. Oh well.
Yep, and as he should.
There is no need for his kind.
Cuccinelli is no coward; nor is he part of the Quisling GOPe. The source for this is a Politico article; you should treat it w/great suspicion at the very least ...they are Dem propagandists. By the way, I am a huge fan of Ted Cruz and have great hopes for both him and Ken Cuccinelli!
Regardless of this terrible move, if you can’t beat out a walking criminal like McAllufe, then it’s time to go back to the private sector.
I suspect his campaign office will be getting calls LOL.
We need the names of all his campaign aides, mgers and consultants for future reference
Buh by you spineless scumbag...you just lost the election!.
I just emailed him...told him to remember Saturday night..the night he gave up the election.!
Shutdown, apparently, will cost Ken the election.
Worth it if the Rs don’t fold and make it all pointless.
Good of Cruz to come raise money for him. Shows honor and responsiblity- good traits.
Bet we here forever that we lost solely because we had a conservative candidate ... IF we lose.
It ain’t over yet.
If the shutdown will cost KC the election, then it means Virginia is now permanently lost as a suburb of DC, dependent on the government tit for its survival. You may be right, but that is not Cooch’s fault.
How many Virginia voters are federal employees, federal contractors, federal lobbyists and those who make a living of of these? Too many "public servants" makes for a tough electorate for a small-government conservative.
Yes, if McAuliffe wins, Virginia will turn into Maryland virtually overnight.
Cooch definitely not at fault.
He can turn this on the Dems by attacking McAuliffe’s bosses Hagel and Obama.
Brilliant of Hagel to send home all those workers he wasn’t supposed to and has now called back. Evil but brilliant.
BS...
First, 83% of govt IS open and only the dim-led senate is holding up their “lost” week’s pay..
B) Ken’s base is firm and knows their candidate. If you believe Romney lost the election because the conservatives stayed home, Ken has them fired up.
III) Haven’t seen Obozo in the same room with McAwful, have we? How about Warner? How about Kaine? And McAwful is white...it matters in VA.
Lastly, I hope I’m right....*sigh*
Close...but I would say if McAuliffe wins, it means Va has already turned into Maryland.
(BTW, I met Ron George last week, running for gov of Md as an R)
hopin’ you are!!!!
(BTW, how bad did Mitt lose Va?)
I’m not from Virginia but I went to his web site and told him what I thought of his cowardice!!!
Why should it? The federal workers are being paid. Going beyond that, if Cucinelli doesn't care, identify, or atriculate the conservative cause then we don't want him. Assuming this article is true, this is just another RINO saboteur who cares more about winning than what's right for the country.
Very good point - I’m stuck in the 90s when it was a red state.
I take that back then. I hope he really didn’t snub Cruz and this was just a falsehood though.
