Why World War II Vets?
Townhall.com ^ | October 6, 2013 | Kevin McCullough

For much of this last week, according to the spokespeople for the National Park Service, the NPS has asserted that the White House specifically ordered that they barricade the open air memorial commemorating the sacrifice and service of the veterans of World War II. In multiple statements to the press NPS spokespeople made it clear that they were directly instructed by the White House specifically to shut the memorial that had previously never been closed.

How do you close something that by design is intended to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year?

National Park Service personnel were also quoted in multiple press reports this week confirming that the White House orders were, "To make life as difficult for people as possible." Adding their own commentary in this thought, "It is disgusting."

On the first day of the shutdown, the White House ordered the open air memorial barricaded. When World War II veterans who were on previously scheduled trips to D.C. to see the memorial in their honor, saw the barricades, the staffers of the House Of Representatives members helped open up the barricades so as to allow these heroes to see the memorial the nation established in their honor.

The next day--obviously displeased that the veterans were allowed to have access--the White House raised the stakes and chained the barricades. The next day they wired them shut and sand bagged them. They even ordered additional work hours for the NPS to send more people to "guard" the World War II memorial.

Commentators drew the ironic and sad comparison that the President was far more concerned about "guarding" this open air area, than he had been in sending guards to rescue Ambassador Stevens the night of the attacks in Benghazi. And only in an upside down universe like an Obama administration would anyone ever believe that the World War II memorial needed "guarding" from World War II veterans to begin with.

Among the topics I've broached in recent years of broadcasts, none have riled the irritation level of the listeners to my 900+ affiliates anywhere equal to the Obama administration's specific targeting of World War II veterans as payback in the debate over the shutdown.

None.

Nothing has come close.

The reasons for the blood-boiling outrage are simple. Here's a few that listeners have consistently written me about:

1. These are the last people in our society deserving of this type of treatment.

2. They paid for the memorial they wish to see with the blood of their own sacrifice, and that of their friends who never came home.

3. They average in age from 78-95 years old.

4. They will likely never have another chance to return to the nation's capital to view the memorial.

5. Many saved for much their lives to make this journey.

6. This memorial has never been closed.

So on the third day of this scandal that was deliberately targeting the greatest Americans in our midst, I began to wonder aloud on air, "Why?"

The Weekly Standard had published pictures of some of the other war memorials in Washington. None of them had a "security presence" anywhere akin to the World War II site. It wasn't until late Saturday that police removed observers from the Vietnam memorial. And the World War I memorial is still wide open for visitors.

So why World War II?

Add to that the late hour closing of the Iowa Jima memorial, and the decision on Thursday to close the Normandy and D-day Memorials and the pattern continued.

What was it about World War II that this administration felt the need to censor?

President Obama's grandfather, on his mother's side, served in WWII--enlisting in the hours following the attacks of Pearl Harbor. One of his great uncles served in the 89th Infantry and helped liberate a labor camp. (A story the president campaigned on (by error) in referring to later as liberation of the camp at Auschwitz.) And President Obama's great uncle and brother to his grandfather landed at Normandy on Dday plus 4 and fought his way through France, Italy and Germany before the war's end.

President Obama's grandfather Stanley Armour Dunham is also biologically related to World War II figures President Harry S. Truman, and George H.W. Bush.

On his father's side, his paternal father was too young to serve in World War II as he was just a boy when the fighting broke out. But his paternal grandfather had fought in World War I, he became bitterly anti-British and converted to Islam following World War II and associated with banned organizations. He was tried for sedition and imprisoned. He refused to give information about the growing insurgency to the colonial westerners, and adopted the name Hussein.

How any of this family history plays into the rather explicit anti-colonial views of President Obama we are left to guess at. But one thing is clear. This president has taken great delight in targeting, hurting, and punishing veterans of World War II in ways this week few could have imagined under any circumstances.

The World War II memorial is my personal favorite memorial in Washington DC. Both of my grandfathers served the United States Navy during the war, and both would be disgusted at the pure manipulation of political power to punish the men they served alongside to keep the free world free.

In the days to come perhaps it would be fruitful for President Obama to negotiate with those he opposes, instead of punishing those he owes his liberty and life to.

And until that day arrives, we must do all we can, to express our thankfulness to all of those who have been willing to give the last full measure of devotion for the freedom we sleep under tonight!

Barricades be damned!

Like I said before. This is a test run to see the reaction should they decide to impose martial law.

Will the people cow and submit or not? Is the conditioning complete or is more needed?

Not only that.... If the federal government is shut down, just who are these folks posing as national park service police, keeping people out from seeing THEIR monuments? I don’t recognize their authority. They have none as they are not legitimately working employees.

When you have a kenyan born, indonesian raised muslim currently living in the white house, why would any petty vindictive move by the -resident come as any surprise to a native born American? The guy acts like a recent immigrant from a third world socialist country.

It would only take a determined hundred people say, to overrun those barricades and claim that the memorial was now “liberated.”

Then the Emperor Hussein would face a dilemma: Keep the memorial open, or have the NPS physically remove protestors whiled the cameras rolled and the YouTube videos and Tweets documented the whole affair for the world to see.

How is it that the parks officials aren't being held accountable? Would YOU put your paycheck and pension in front of American freedom?

On another thread, Owen Kellog replied to Onyx, who earlier posted: "I won’t obey, and that I solemnly promise you all." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yesterday at the WWII Memorial, I saw people who would obey. I was inside the Memorial with 100s of others. I was 10 feet behind the Park Rangers while they explained to people that the park was closed. Despite me waving and inviting them in, they turned and left like obedient serfs. That was dismaying.

The NPS cops should call in sick, go on strike, or otherwise refuse to enforce these orders. It is not "Obama's fault" at this point. It is THEIR fault for enforcing his orders. They have ZERO excuse for enforcing the closure of these parks, and THEY should be held accountable by us. Americans need to go face to face with these individuals in the NPS and shame them into slinking away, or else catch them and handcuff themn to nearby trees and park benches.

I am absolutely serious. At this point, NPS officials who go along with Obama even though they just hate doing it but "are only acting under orders," have ZERO excuse and should be dealt with accordingly. They have a choice: they can either side with Obama, or side with Americans.

WW II vets are the ones who remember, up close and ugly, the worst excesses of the “New Deal” of FDR, and as such they are our conscience and living reminder of how BAD the horrors of a long extended depression had on a nation which was once much more free than it was in 1939.

Only after the returning vets from the recent war were elected to political office, and the infestation of Communists that had taken over every department under Roosevelt (and Truman, for that matter) were finally cleared out, did some semblance of freedom return in those halcyon days of Eisenhower.

A new infestation has overtaken Washington. But it is not the Soviet sympathizers, it is the sympathizers with an even more dreadful ideology, Islam. Islam is only peripherally involved with religion, theirs is an ideology of firm hierarchical control, with three tiers of humanity:

1. The Noble Islamic Gentlemen, self-selected representatives of Allah;

2. The Dhimmi, those who choose not to convert to Islam, but who do not try to assert their form of worship, agreeing instead to accept servitude as their lot in life. The entire human female gender is also included in this group, whether they have accepted the premises of Islam or not, and;

3. The Kufir, “unbelievers” or “infidels” who actively resist the supremacy of Islam, and promote resistance to its spread and ascendancy. Those of such belief are pronounced as enemy, and are summarily subject to death, without any defense or opportunity to state their case.

The Islamic definition of “moderate” is to give the Kufir the opportunity to either become a Noble Islamic Gentleman, and thus a part of their scheme, or a Dhimmi, and offer no resistance to becoming a lackey and toady to the Noble Islamic Gentlemen. If the captured non-Muslim chooses neither of these, execution is imminent.

The Current Regime now squatting in the White Hut has chosen to side with Islam, but not ALL of Islam - only with the variety espoused by the Saudi Royal family, the Sunni version. The Sunni also supports the most regressive forms of maintaining its superiority, through a discipline known as Wahhabi, a very fundamentalist interpretation of the Koran, giving rise to the Muslim Brotherhood, and its various franchises, including al-Qaeda. So the regime now holding tactical control of that territory once known as “the United States of America” has sided with the very attackers that took down the World Trade Center and inflicted a serious blow at the very citadel of American power, the Pentagon.

Had the Current Regime chosen to side with the Shi’ite version of Islam, their moral position would be in no way improved, as it is like the struggle between International Socialism, under Josef Stalin, and National Socialism, under Adolf Hitler. Neither side should have been an ally with what the United States once was, but because of the machinations of the New Deal and FDR, this country was under the influence of International Socialism, and it was bleeding into every aspect of the once independent United States of America.

National Park Service personnel were also quoted in multiple press reports this week confirming that the White House orders were, "To make life as difficult for people as possible."

Nat. Park rangers have closed a CO state highway.

Trail Ridge road between Grand Lake and Estes Park CO is closed due to the shutdown. It is one of only two roads into Estes Park after the floods. This is a declared disaster area with major infrastructure damage. TR road will close for the winter due to weather before long but we need every day and every way we can get to try and get a handle on the flood aftermath before serious winter weather sets in.

TR road is a state highway so where do the Feds get off closing it? Unfortunately our mayor doesn't have the balls to stand up for us. He was on Fox News putting the blame on Congress instead of doing his job. But the fact remains, 0bama is applying pain to people in a national disaster area for political gamesmanship.

I post that not to complain or find relief but simply to inform all of yet another incident of 0malignant's narcissistic cruelty.

Heya, Tigers! I hope you're well!

See my post 29 above -- I should have pinged you to it.

At this point, pistol packin' Nat'l Park Rangers are as much the bad guys as Obama, and should be held accountable. They could call in sick or do any of a number of things to see that Obama's flawed and destructive orders are ignored, but they care about their paychecks and pensions, apparently, more than they care about the USA. What they are doing is wrong and deliberately destructive to local economies and personal freedoms, they know it, yet they're doing it anyway.

The "I was only following orders" defense holds as much water as a tennis racquet. These park service personnel should be firmly rounded up and handcuffed to their vehicles, park benches, or trees while real Americans go about enjoying their rights to enjoying their parks.

Oh ... wait, I did ping you to #29! Forgot you were on my last-minute cut-n-paste ping list!! {^)

On the coast of California here, it has recently become such a common sight that is is very worrisome, to see armed groups of fish 'n game thugs patrolling recreational areas such as "protected" sand dunes and fishing areas. It's as if they're prepared to shoot-to-kill anyone fishing without a license or who perhaps has the nerve to poach on King Obama's land.

Sure, there have always been power-trippin' pisol packin' fisn'n'game officials around and wily REAL folks (hunters, fishermen) knew how to circumvent and outsmart them. But in the past 10 years, the pistol packin' power-trippin' "parks officials" have become younger, thuggier, and a whole lot more numerous.

They are bad boys.

You did ping me to it! ;-)

It's not the NPS rangers that chafe me as much as the fact that our mayor isn't raising heck about it. We do have a governor in CO (in spite of appearances) and our mayor should be raising hell with him to get that state highway open. Where is our media pointing out that flood victims in a nationally declared disaster area are just pawns to 0bamugabe?

Personally I am fine, Finny. My basement apt. flooded and we (and 2,000 neighbors) are on a "no flush" order until three miles of sewer line can be temp. replaced. But there are lots of people with nothing left or no way to get to their homes other than hike after being evaced by the Nat. Guard. More importantly supplies coming in and garbage going out have only one route and it's about 70 miles longer than the normal three routes that were destroyed.

My dad is a combat wounded WWII Vet of the
511 PIR/11th Airborne Div (Philippines Campaign).
My brother and I took him to DC to visit the WWII
Memorial the September after it opened. Pop holds
a PhD in education but his memory and health
are understandably failing. Still, he ask me how
it is that Obama can pay people to barricade and
guard the memorial yet there is not the money to
keep it open.
