There has never been an autumn stretch as beautiful as this has been for enjoying hiking and cycling along that trail. I would hope the people keep using the trail. It's certainly impossible to close off the whole canal route.

The symbolism of what Obama is doing is powerful. That path along the Cuyahoga River was used by escaped slaves who wanted to get to Canada across Lake Erie. Most couldn't get across so that east side of Cleveland got the starts of its massive black population. That's right folks. Obama is trying to close the very trail that meant freedom from slavery for so many blacks!

The screaming from the black community is deafingly....nonexistant.

Well they haven`t, not yet! Was just there this morning and its still "guerrilla opened". Now mind you I didn`t go that way but a older couple said they started by Brecksville Reservation, parking in the Metro-Parks, and I know its open to Szalays Farm from Peninsula, which I hiked. Another couple said they took it all the way to Merriman Valley.

It was raining all weekend but I`m going to do my usual ride from Peninsula to Locke 3 in Downtown Akron, perhaps Monday or Tuesday, weather permitting. I hate riding the trail when its wet because of the gritty splash from the berm gravel surface, what a mess it makes.
