Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, blamed by Democrats and some of his fellow Republicans as a chief architect of the ongoing government shutdown, struck back on Saturday, faulting President Obama and Senate Democrats for the political stalemate.
Let me be very clear, I dont think we should be in a shutdown, Cruz said in a speech to conservatives in the Virginia state capital. Throughout the course of it, I have said we should not shut down the government. But sadly this is Harry Reids and President Obama's shutdown.
The government shutdown began Tuesday when the president refused to give in to Republican demands that he delay or change the Affordable Care Act, the signature achievement of his first term that began enrolling patients on October 1, in exchange for passing a routine spending bill.
In the run-up to the shutdown, Cruz - whose profile has risen considerably among conservatives since taking office this year - had lobbied Republicans in the House and Senate not to relent, even as the president was promising not to sign any bill that would alter "Obamacare."
Cruz reminded the audience that House Republicans have passed multiple narrowly targeted continuing resolutions to fund parts of the government as negotiations continue, but he criticized Democrats for refusing to pass them.....

That’s a mighty big promise to extract from a party of cowards.
Hold the line Ted!
Americans need someone to represent them on Capitol Hill. If the Republicans can’t or won’t do it, we’ll find somebody who can.
Ted has made it clear that the only way to win is for the people to lean on the weasels.
The headline said promise, not Cruz. He said how we can win.
How do we win? he asked. If you trust the media, if you trust the voices in Washington, if you even trust, god forbid, some of the elected Republicans in Washington, they say we cant win this fight. The only way to win this fight is the way we won every other fight throughout the history of the republic, which is solutions dont come from Washington, D.C., they come from the people.
“The only way to win this fight is the way we won every other fight throughout the history of the republic, which is solutions dont come from Washington, D.C., they come from the people.
His message has never wavered.
Amen.
Sadly the people are complacent at best.
Hold the line Ted, let them feel the promise of Obamacare in their wallet.
Give ‘em both barrels Senator Cruz.
CNN?
Has Boehner seen this?
Until five years ago, the government was funded through the appropriations process, called Regular Order (piecemeal). Around a dozen separate appropriations bills, each covering one or two federal agencies, made their way through Congress. Some passed through Congress easily. Others took much longer and witnessed more sustained and impassioned debate, and sometimes a government shutdown, as occurred 7 or 8 times when Tip O'Neil was Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The partial government shutdown of 1995 was another example where piecemeal appropriations bills were passed by both houses.
Do you suppose that Reid can justify why he does not follow the normal protocol? Why is he insisting on an Omnibus bill when that is not the normal way to do business? Why is not the main stream media on this egregious error by the Senate Democrats?
The headline is misleading, and intended to put Cruz in a negative light.
We should be pressuring the oppositional congress members, supporting those taking a stand, AND calling out the media for their bias all at once. Send emails, letters, make phone calls. Then do it again.
This is INDEED Obama Reid ALL DEMOCRAT SHITDOWN!! BARRYCADES have been put up BY DEMOCRATS!!!
Call your Congressman and Senators...both Democrat and Republican, but call their LOCAL OFFICES ALSO!!! They ALL have LOCAL OFFICES....CALL THEM ,and CALL OFTEN!!
Get ‘em Ted.
He sure looks and sounds like a great leader in the making to me. I observe him getting better and better - a one hour, no notes, extemporaneous speech. Wow! No handlers needed, writing and controlling through teleprompter his every words. He may even rival Reagan before it’s over. He is fully engaged in the good fight to the end while espousing encouragement along the way to his followers, he is out campaigning and speaking in glowing terms of fellow Conservatives even when those Conservatives do not have the guts to fully embrace him. He is a man who knows who he is, a man of the people and not Washington.
