Trail Ridge road between Grand Lake and Estes Park CO is closed due to the shutdown. It is one of only two roads into Estes Park after the floods. This is a declared disaster area with major infrastructure damage. TR road will close for the winter due to weather before long but we need every day and every way we can get to try and get a handle on the flood aftermath before serious winter weather sets in.
TR road is a state highway so where do the Feds get off closing it? Unfortunately our mayor doesn't have the balls to stand up for us. He was on Fox News putting the blame on Congress instead of doing his job. But the fact remains, 0bama is applying pain to people in a national disaster area for political gamesmanship.
I post that not to complain or find relief but simply to inform all of yet another incident of 0malignant's narcissistic cruelty.

It’s all I can do to be civil to anyone I know who voted for that evil fill-in-the-blank! I have cut former friends out of my life and some relatives, too. They are all so smug and sure that I am SO wrong about their hero! It’s impossible to talk to them and I can’t bear to be around them. When will people wake up?
I wouldn’t. If you saw the printed signs for the Veterans Memorials, you know this was planned out in advance. I would suspect the cones were put there for exactly that purpose, just got a jump on everyone else or possibly one of the low information and reading skilled employees who got the date wrong.
Another version of this said they were up on the first and they completely blocked the places to pull off and view the monument... but I can’t post that one on Free Republic.
However...it looks as though the mods have decided this is weather-related.

I'm guessing that Mt. Rushmore was closed to visitors, so the visitors were pulling over to view it in another location in such numbers that it became a safety hazard on the highway. And the police were probably South Dakota state police, not connected with the federal government.

Currently the Black Hills are snowed in and no travel was advised. However when the roads are cleared these are state highways and the Park Service has no business blocking them.
