Businesses and residents on the Outer Banks have planned a peaceful protest of the closure of Hatteras Island's beaches due to the government shut down.
Ryan White, who owns Hatteras Jack Tackle Shop in Rodanthe, tells WITN the protest is planned for noon on Saturday at the entrance to Cape Point.
He says right now added law enforcement officials are blocking off all access to the beaches, which he says is unfortunate and unfair for tourists and businesses.
A Facebook page has even popped up in support of opening the beaches. It's called "The People's Beach." So far, several hundred people say they are going to the event.
The U.S. House Wednesday passed a measure to reopen national parks and monuments. It will now go to the U.S. Senate.
Approach from the sea, bring your boats in and on to beach.
Leaves one to wonder where all of these “enforcement” personnel were when the diplomatic mission in Benghazi was under attack, doesn’t it?
The liberals in Washington have declared war on the people of America.
They are evil.
If they are not voted out of office, the country is doomed to become a dictatorship.
Why would they need to close a beach? Do we need the federal government to tell us how to sit on the sand? Hopefully this shutdown will show some people how incredibly stupid and worthless the feds are.
Past time to “liberate” several of our National Parks/Monuments. The Vets did it at WWII. Soccer Moms did it at Turtle Park. Hatteras is next. How long before the Statue of LIBERTY? Or is Liberty dead in the US of A?
Proof that the GOVT. RULES OVER US, instead of the other way around!!
Yea right.
the gov’t force is there to provoke a violent response. Don’t give it to them. Just shame them by standing in front of them in silence pointing at them.
Then post the image everywhere online.
One small problem with that...surf.
There are a lot of places along that stretch that you can beach a Boston Whaler or similar boat. Then push it back in when you’re ready to leave. There are also places where it is hard for a turtle to access the shore. It’s been a long time since I was there. But at that time the area was a good place to beach and launch under the right surf conditions.
I’m in CA. so can’t make the protest. I did however join the FB group. That way it’s now on my page.
Well, all boats must approach from the sound side and then pass through the inlets to the ocean.
Since the park is islands, simply beach the boat on the sound side of the inlet....... no problem
Sorry, due to the SHUTDOWN, we’ve closed the ocean. That’s right, the entire ocean.
Lucky we don’t shut down the air you breathe.
They have attempted to close Fla Bay ....Conch heads wont stand for that shit
One also has to wonder if emergency response is being compromised with all the law enforcement spending so much time in playing prison guard.
beach or swamp?
I was CG in that area, not a good idea to try to land any boat in the area.
The inlet beaches have areas suitable for landing.
