Arizona Sen. John McCain and other like-minded Republican senators could end up reprising roles as key deal-makers as the party seeks a final negotiated solution to the government shutdown.
With a core group of House Republicans sticking together in their chamber, and Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell taking a low public profile in the fight, that leaves McCain and similar-thinking GOP senators to look for a deal.
McCain has argued over and over again that this is one battle that the Republicans simply cannot win.
And most Republican senators seem to agree with him, but there is little evidence that their GOP counterparts in the House can be convinced, at least not yet.

OMG, he’s going to reach across the aisle again.
As much as I hate to say it MCCain may be right. We make our stand and remind the people that this thing is not over and when it gets out of hand McCain can help save it. Then the rank and file will be so mad at the establishment (and McCain) that they would not dare to support the amnesty bill that this backstaber and his friend are pushing. That would be worth the whole thing.

It's well past time for the “elders” like McCain to stand aside and let the young blood lead the effort to bring this country back from the edge of oblivion. Amnesty is an issue that needs dealt with next year and to lend ANY “authority” or “respectability” to that Asshole McCain is a huge mistake that will do nothing but perpetuate the status quo.
Hold the line! Force the left to come to terms or we accomplish nothing and the future path of this country is set for failure, complete and irreversible. That path will lead to death and destruction in this country on a scale that is unimaginable, IMO.
If bending over and dropping trou for Obama will solve the crsis they are in.
The Dems and their media lapdogs love McCain, McConnell, Graham and the other squishy Republicans because they know they can manipulate them into breaking with conservative Republicans by dangling media adulation in front of them. Of course, when those same Republicans are running in elections against Democrats, they’ll be trashed, the same as conservatives, but the RINOs tend to forget that, because that only happens every 6 yrs. or so.
This is what one would expect from the NBC echo chamber.
