Stirrings In South Carolina’s U.S. Senate Race (bad news for Lindsey!!)

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s campaign is said to be in “meltdown mode” based on internal polling done in the wake of his conflicted votes on Obamacare last week.

Already vulnerable among GOP voters due to a host of ideological betrayals (including his support for energy tax hikes, internet tax hikes, amnesty for illegal aliens and domestic spying), Graham’s tortured “opposition” to Obamacare has reportedly caused his perilous position to erode even further.

How much further? FITS was not provided with specific details on the poll – but one source close to Graham’s camp tells us the organization has been “temporarily incapacitated” by the numbers that came back following Graham’s Obamacare votes.

Other Graham sources dispute that contention. They say their internal polling shows his approval rating among Republicans dropping – but that the decline was “within the margin of error.”

Graham will boast another impressive fundraising quarter, this source told us (including big money from a recent trial lawyer event) – but his estimated $7 million war chest may not be enough to save him.

Meanwhile up in Washington, D.C., another poll – taken by a limited government group opposing Graham’s reelection – found similar results.

“Adding Obamacare appeasement to his lengthy list of sins has hurt Lindsey Graham badly,” one source familiar with the limited government group’s polling tells FITS.

Not only that, this group is said to be shopping its data to a pair of fiscally conservative U.S. Congressmen – Mick Mulvaney and Mark Sanford – in an effort to encourage them to run against Graham.

“They are actively recruiting,” our source said, referring to the overall effort to oust Graham as an “eight-figure operation.”

LINDSEY GRAHAM Have these overtures been successful?

“If Mulvaney doesn’t run against him, Sanford will,” our source said. “But Mulvaney might take another look at it.”

Wow …

Neither Mulvaney nor Sanford were immediately available for comment. Sources close to both lawmakers were also exceedingly tight-lipped about any U.S. Senate speculation.

For months, fiscally conservative S.C. Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) was viewed as the most likely challenger to Graham – however Davis declined to run. In his stead, three candidates have stepped forward – Lowcountry businesswoman Nancy Mace, S.C. Sen. Lee Bright (R-Spartanburg) and social conservative attorney Richard Cash.

A fourth challenger – former lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Bill Connor – is said to be close to jumping into the race.

Of Graham’s declared opponents, Mace is the most electable – although like Bright and Cash she is not widely known. Also none of Graham’s announced opponents are expected to demonstrate much in the way of fundraising prowess – assuming those numbers ever get released given the shuttering of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) during the partial government shutdown.

Obviously FITS will continue to monitor these latest developments in South Carolina’s U.S. Senate primary – which is scheduled for next June.

“Seven million war chest?”

That’s a lot of payoffs!

McCain borrowed $20 million (IIRC) from his presidential run to help his Senate run a couple of years later.

How/why did he have that much left over when his presidential campaign was supposedly in financial distress during the spring and summer of 2008?

==

Those are a lot of $millions for a job that currently pays $174,000 per year.

I remember when Lindsey Graham was being touted by Laura Ingram as a true Conservative.

Thinking that the average Republican is a true conservative is like making a battle plan - it's only good until first contact/decision.

Nancy Mace is/was involved with this website..so read it with a slightly jaundiced eye as in ... "Mace is the most electable ..."

Good point Ken, I noticed that too. Hmmm. I wonder what Mace's internal polls look like too. Perhaps Will is looking to swith horses midstream?

Of Graham’s declared opponents, Mace is the most electable

Considering Mace's involvement with this blog, that's not a surprising statement.

But right now, IMHO, Bright is the leader.

Regarding other Reps being recruited for Senator, Mulvaney and Sanford are both good conservatives. But Trey Gowdy would be the best.

And put one of these fine folks in his place:
Nancy Mace Lee Bright Richard Cash

FReepmail me if you want on or off this ping list. (Additions: free; Deletions: $10/ea :)

“...they activate it and afterwards you sound like the rest of the ass..les down there.”

Reminds me of a sign on our headquarters bulletin board (Army) that warned before it was removed:

“Medical Alert!! Doctors have discovered that the AIDS virus can be contracted through the EARS and is spread by listening to @ssholes. Use extreme caution in this headquarters & immediate surroundings!”

Good to hear. I am curious though, would not Gowdy, Mulvaney and Sanford have already considered running and decided not to? It seems late to still be contemplating entering this primary, but perhaps not. Besides, why is Will Folks seeming to discard Nancy Mace at this point?

He's discarding her? In his article he says she's the most electable. Discarding?

I completely understand the seeming contradiction, but remember this is Will 'Unfair. Imbalanced' Folks.

Why is he the one behind the "stirrings in the S.C. Senate race" news with his unnamed one source which introduces Mulvaney and Sanford to the race? To me, this is completely from left field and certainly counter to what the Mace camp would want at this point of the campaign.

The 'most electable' is just a throwaway line to give Nancy a parting gift. Pure speculation on my part but it is an explanation to an otherwise contradictory article.

I got phone polled last night in SC about this.
They asked:
Had I heard of L.Graham
Was my opinion favorable
Did I support his voting record
Had I heard of M.Sanford
Was my opinion favorable
Did I support a balanced budget amendment
Did I support the 2nd amendment
Am I for or against abortion
Do I support SC’s right to work law
In a senate race between L.Graham & M.Sanford who would I vote for.

“Chambliss and Graham were among those elected that year. But they soon went soft, they came under the spell of John McCain and Mitch McConnell. And good riddance to them. Thank heaven for frequent elections!”

Just remember the “Senate Fish” stinks from the head. We have a while to see the last of McLame (unless he is “called home”) but Bitch Mc Connell has got to go this next election. Ditto for Boner in the House.

Frankly, I'll take Betty Boop or Porky Pig--just make sure the choice beats Lindsey Graham.

Beware what happened with Markie Sanford (Wonder how hot that Famous Futon is these days with Hot Pants from Argentina...)--Sanford's primary opponents were so diluted by so many that we ended up with him against Colbert's REALLY WEIRD sister. Sanford was the choice of Democrats in SC because they thought they had a chance against him. Now Sanford is once again unreliably representing the 1st in SC.
