School Tells Cop Scott Urkov Not To Wear Gun, Uniform When Picking Up Daughter

While school districts around the country, in wake of the numerous school shootings that have plagued the United States in recent years, have debated whether to have armed guards on school grounds, one school in Arizona recently told a police officer to leave his gun at home — and for that matter, his uniform as well — when he picks up his daughter.
Scott Urkov got a call from the principal of Entz Elementary School in Mesa, Arizona, after he showed up at the school in his full police uniform including his sidearm.
The cop immediately took to Facebook to express his disbelief.
"Nothing like your kids school calling and asking if I could not come to pick up my daughter in uniform cause parents were concerned when their kids came home telling them there was a man at school with a gun. Are you freaking kidding me?" he posted.
The sight of an armed man — even a fully uniformed police officer — with a handgun on the school grounds was apparently too much for some parents.
"There were some parents who were concerned about that fact that there was a fully armed officer on campus and they spoke to the principal about it," said school spokesperson Helen Hollands.
But not all parents were alarmed. Some told a local Fox TV station that an armed officer on campus was a good thing.
"Even if my kids saw that I think they'd feel more protected to see a man in uniform at their school," sais one parent, Blaine Spencer.
The school has apologized, saying that they didn’t realize that Urkov (pictured) would take the phone call as an affront and now wants to turn the misunderstanding into a “teachable moment.” Urkov has bee invited to speak at the school in his full uniform to explain to kids what police officers do.
As for Urkov himself, he told the Fox reporter that his department advised him “just to let it be,” without further comment.

Too much for stupid liberal parents who have their heads up their butts. They hate the police. They hate the military. But, when someone is kicking down the door or a terrorist is shooting his block up with an AK47, they want you there right freaking now. Stupid idiot liberals are a threat to society. THEY are the problems with this nation. Liberals, progressives, socialists, communists, Obamanuts. All the same and the REAL reason this nation is screwed up so badly.
True, one unexamined aspect of these attitudes is because most people who self identify as liberals are very often abject physical cowards with no sense of personal honor. I recall decades ago in college a prick of a liberal called me a liar to my face. I told him that the reason I didn't cold cock him was I didn't want to get expelled but if he wanted to repeat his remarks off campus I would be happy to oblige. He thought the whole idea of an ‘affront to ones honor’ to be beyond stupid. This fellow became some sort of medical researcher. So we have a governing and intellectual class heavily populated by cowards who have no sense of honor. These people hate guns as ‘symbols of violence’ and have no conception of how to deal with any emergency requiring physical courage and are completely at a loss when they do have to deal with such events.
Some time ago a female from Human Rights watch was permitted to embed with US troops in Afghanistan. She made it clear that she thought they were all killers and male chauvinist pigs. One day out with a patrol team visiting a village a Ghazi with a suicide belt jumped the patrol. Someone yelled ‘bomb’ and as the female later reported ‘two guys i thought were pigs jumped on top of me to protect me from the blast. One of them got some injuries. Her later remarks were ‘Why would you risk you life for someone you scarcely know and know detests you. Wow, I never understood courage until today. Always thought it was just male bs.Its not. Those men are great. They are heroes.’ Unfortunately few libs ever have such a true life experience.

The police in our city are required to carry their guns on or off duty. Uniformed or not.
Don’t be so anti-effusive.

LOL! Good for you. This trooper looked at her in shock and patiently explained that he can’t hand over his weapon. I told him that I would be right back and retrieved a Marine MP. He was given access and kept his weapon of course.
My employer at that time was a major corporation and also a government contractor. We had a military presence in some areas.

Dont be so anti-effusive. Ours are also required to carry at all times. Go back and reread my post instead of overreacting and jumping to conclusions.

Just FYI, if you obtain a concealed carry permit in AZ you are not subject to the 1000 restriction. Carrying a weapon onto school grounds, however, would still be an issue.

That school is inviting a massacre. All it takes is one deranged Democrat off his meds.

In digging around in the rest of their school district website, they are into Common Core curriculum bigtime, and one of their teachers was Teacher of the Year for Arizona, went to see Obama in the oval office and was apparently happy to do so.

Another reason to...oh, well, metmon, you know the routine.
If he were dressed in drag or a leather bondage outfit, he’d get an interview with the school paper and at least one talk show apperance. WTF is happening?

At least the marine guards at Beirut got to hold M-16s even though their ammo was taken away so that they were unable to create an incident. This so emboldened the ragheads that they shot and ran over the useless guards, drove around the concrete maze and blew up the barracks. Hope the school never has to wish it had a cop around with a real gun and bullets when they really needed one.

That’s just it. They are never off duty within tehir jurisdiction, so they have an obligation to use lethal force when appropriate. The difference is the way in which ordinary citizens were once upon a time obligated to be armed as well and under somewhat limited obligations to use lethal force in appropriate circumstances in defense of other citizens. This civilian responsibility for public safety has been deprecated.
