“Doesn’t care” is a good working definition of “tone deaf.” He’s pissed because this is a bunch of old white guys. I bet one of them used the “N” word once.

Note to the people monitoring this thread who are seriously considering putting together organized protests with the goal of getting people arrested for crossing barricades -- make sure you have some black World War II vets getting arrested, especially if it is white police officers doing the arresting.

Conservatives don't usually think about race because most of us aren't racists. The other side, however, thinks about race all the time.

"Optics" on this one will count.

If I'm correct, based on the photo posted here on Free Republic, the 97-year-old WW2 vet who was the oldest vet at the event yesterday was either black or had a pretty dark tan.

Somebody needs to ask him what he thinks about the government shutdown.

I know some of the people who went on these "Honor Flights." One of them was a minority who, even now at the end of his life, passionately hates Hitler, Hirohito, and the bigoted ethnocentric agenda which Fascism in both its Aryan and Asian forms advocated. He's not conservative enough for Free Republic, and he sometimes (not always) votes for Democrats, but he would be furious if he went all the way to Washington for an Honor Flight and got turned away by a government shutdown.

It wouldn't be the Republicans he would be blaming.

Let's be honest: while the Honor Flight people who I know were glad to be there, some of them had aging issues.

If this 97-year-old veteran is capable of speaking clearly, getting his comments on national TV could become very interesting.
