So, the WWII memorial is open today... Park police letting everyone by right now. #shutdown

As noted in the last post, Congressman Steve King "distracted" the Capitol Park Police while the veterans, per their training, rushed over the barriers.
Here's a brief Vine video of the veterans reclaiming their Memorial from Obama's Shutdown Theater Prop Workshop.

Awesome. I hope they keep it up. My grandmother is due to go to DC next week to the memorial.

Why would a Government shutdown close this Memorial?
It just sits there. It doesn’t need employees.
What dipstick ordered it shut down?

Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) said he believed the Park Service opened the gates. Rep Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) said the congressmen did it. Rep. Steven M. Palazzo (R-Miss.) said the barricades just seemed to part.
Im not going to enforce the no stopping or standing sign for a group of 90 World War II veterans, said a U.S. Park Police officer, who declined to give his name. Im a veteran myself.
Its the best civil disobedience weve seen in Washington for a long time, Huizenga told the veterans.

Closing the memorial is an essential service, while opening the memorial is not.

Someone should check and see if the MLK monument (you know, that monument that was built in damn near secrecy and handcrafted by CHINESE WORKERS) is still open. I’d be curious to know that.

The US Park Police were trying to close off the WWII Memorial as part of Obama's Shutdown Theater. Congressman Steve King and a veterans group over-ran the barricades and are occupying the Memorial. This is brilliant! No big-eared Punk-in-Chief is going to stop our brave Honor Flight heroes from visiting their WWII Memorial!! Thank you, Congressman Steve King!

Since vets are the new terrorists, can’t wait for CNNABCNBCCBS to spin this.
