Levin claimed something today that sounded like that if it were not for him no one would have thought to talk about it. I cannot remember what it was but it's been talked about for years.
Personally I wish these guys would create blogs dedicated to their egos and confine their on-air stuff for what they do better than most in broadcasting history. IMO America needs every minute of their air time.

If you could first know where you are and whither you are tending, you could better judge what to do and how to do it. You initiated a policy to tolerate the Marxist-Alinsky radicals and let them rant; not only has it not ceased but was constantly augmented by decades of infiltration and indoctrination. You now have two Americas. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half statist and half free; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other.
The question today is either the opponents of statism will arrest the further spread of it and place it on course of ultimate extinction, or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become permanent.
Have you no tendency to the latter condition?
Let anyone who doubts carefully contemplate that now almost complete legal combination — piece of machinery, so to speak — compounded of the Republican Party hands-across-the-aisle doctrine and the dreadful actions among statism's chief architects.

During the "Fairness Doctrine", silenced majority era Larry King was Mr. Radio ("What? You don't want to pay more taxes? Don't you love your country?")
Then came Rush Limbaugh, et al and as Rush got more and more popular King claimed that he had never hear of Limbaugh; later he claimed that Rush was not a real name. It didn't bother Limbaugh one iota.
Well, Savage is out of it, as usual. I can not listen to anymore of him today.

I haven’t commented on it, but agree with Mike’s take on the NRA and the elephant hunter.

Other competitors include Laura Ingraham (transgender with a cross) and the many names he called Ann Coulter are too vile to be repeated. Though recently he had some really nice things to say about Ms Coulter. Also last I heard he was on friendly terms with Ms Ingraham.

A note about "hemorrhoid with eyes." Savage thought Beck was just wanting publicity or something. Ditto when Limbaugh was hospitalized with what turned out to be NOT a heart attack. Again Savage thought it was all for publicity and to me seemed disappointed that the Number One talk show host was OK.
