The mans Range Rover was surrounded by several bikers on the West Side Highway on Sunday. One biker apparently cut the driver off and slammed on the brakes just before the SUV bumped his rear tire. But when the driver stopped, several bikers began to damage his SUV. Cops are investigating.
A pack of bikers pummeled a driver in upper Manhattan on Sunday, after a wild chase that began with a fender bender on the West Side Highway, cops said.
The brawl erupted after the victim who was driving his wife and their young child became surrounded by a swarm of motorcycles on the highway and accidentally hit one of the bikes near W. 125th St. about 2 p.m., police said.

I’ll repeat my scenario & question. Please answer it.
“What if someone whips over in front of you and slams on their brakes, but there isnt enough time or distance to slow and avoid hitting them?
Who caused the accident?”
I suspect the motorcyclists were hostile to this SUV driver. That is why they coordinated to stop him in the middle of a highway. I have no idea why they were hostile to him. But coordinating to stop him on a highway is a very aggressive action, and one that would cause a reasonable person to fear for his own safety or the safety of his family.
You seem to be suggesting that the motorcyclists had some legitimate reason to stop the SUV in the middle of the highway. I have a hard time seeing how there can be any legitimate reason to take such an outrageous and aggressive action.
well i guess the cage could get jammed on a sufficiently large overturned cycle.
we have a general wickedness problem here, guy, and i won’t try to versify it in haiku. maybe you can.
well the idea springs off the idea that the biker is free. so the car driver is in a cage. of course unless the biker is biking in birthday suit, he is still encapsulated in something.
You asking about scenarios that did not occur here. Try sticking to this story.
No one, "Slammed on their brakes" and there were already dozens of bikes directly in front of Suv guy....No?
Yup they are really do just fit you perfectly those blinders.
if some ones illegally changes lanes then pulls in front of me accelerates then with no reason looks back and slows rapidly for no reason.. on a MUCH more agile vehicle and I hit my breaks but due to them being so close (by their choice) I cant break as fast as they do.. I will feel not in any way feel I was at fault.
Oh and have had 2 wheel vehicles been run off road by 4 wheeled ones but I never bought the “bikes & mobs are right” blinders.
If they are threatening my life you can be sure I will do what is necessary.
What were they doing there?
Why were they stopping?
Probably best to let a convoy of bikers just go on by, dropping speed slowly to encourage that to happen if they don’t get the hint. They will be happiest with their own, and no cage to be concerned about.
“....Ya need to understand, just because someone stops or slows in front of you, DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO RUN INTO THEM..
You best understand the rules of the road before ya get behind the wheel....”

Dragnet, you’re not one of these folks who intentionally gets in front of a vehicle slam your brakes for no reason to instigate an “accident” and then sue the “at fault” driver who rear ended you, are you? You seem to sympathize with folks who intentionally engineer a rear end collision.
Any you are within your legal rights to do so, as long as the threat is reasonable.
Again, there were already dozens of bikes in front of and all sides of the suv ...
He clearly did not appreciate all the bikes, and played, "Get out of my way pissing match" with them, resulting in the suv intentionally rear ending one of them with his, "Get out of my way tap".
I’d be curious about how the convoy or swarm managed to get the cage embedded in it. It could have been a “give some random cage a hard time” operation which turned uglier. Or was there some highway condition such as a lane closure that made it not possible for the bikes to pass. Usually bikers on bikes are happiest with their own and would rather not interact with cagers in a cage.
Oh I think there was a "reason".
After what I witnessed this weekend by dozens of riders in my neck of the woods?...yes, I do believe that packs of riders will randomly pick on motorists just because they are AH's.
I also believe you're giving way too much credence to the riders in this story and not thinking about how aggressive and threatening riders can be, especially in packs.
Many motorists simply don't want any confrontation, yet will get one for the simplest and most minor "infraction" such as dissing a rider.
I got "thanked" for sliding over a bit closer to the shoulder on a 2 lane road at 60-65 mph, making room for a pack of riders. How? The last rider in the pack nearly clipped me as he crowded me even closer to the shoulder and moved into my lane.
I do believe he was goading me into doing something stupid. I might have taken the bait if I didn't have a truckload of Scouts, but more than likely not as I was too tired to give a damn about some jackass challenging a 5k lbs. pickup truck.
He then let go of his throttle, he didn't touch his brakes, so I only saw that our closing was going to result in a collision. If I hadn't been paying attention to the AH rider, he would have been mush.
Now ask me if I'm ever going to give a MC rider any quarter on the road like I did this weekend.
As someone who gave up riding after 30 years, the answer is no. They're responsible for the reputation that is being reinforced that they're nothing more than thugs.
I realize many aren't, but after this weekend, they're only going to get what the laws permit.
Glad to know that an MOB on bikes has the automatice right of way..
The bikes were being operated in illegal fashion. the one that was tapped (he did not go down else the SUV would have rolled over him) did an volitional act to effect the SUV in some way and did not like the result he got.. well Drive by the law not the “hey there are a lot of us.. get out of way cager” rule and that will not happen
Oh, fooey, you all are clearly grabbing stuff out of thin air. There’s too little to say, even assuming that what’s here is accurate (news reporting is abysmal these days).
Again, what were they doing?
Why were they slowing down?
Why did they want to stop the SUV? To exchange Christmas Cards?
You’re dense.
Because someone slows in front of you, don’t not give you the right to rear end them...
Read this several hundred times. It just might sink in.
I’ve seen cops pull over bikes who were riding as those guys and these weren’t even part of a big group.
Aggressive and reckless driving is a crime.
