Smokers are the favorite targets for persecution aren’t they? Makes me wonder why they are set apart to be picked on when there are other habits and behaviours that are also unhealthy, yet you don’t see heavy drinkers, drug users, the non-exercisers, the over-eaters, the reckless drivers, the promiscuous, being charged higher premiums huh?

I’ve been wondering about the blood test thing. Some people have replaced cigarettes with the electronic cigarettes. It is a vapor, but contains nicotine. They are far better than cigarettes because a person is not inhaling all the other chemcals. (People lose their smoker’s hack, etc.) However, these people would still have nicotine in their system. Same thing for nicotine lozenges or gum. No cigarette, but still the nicotine.

I am curious about your friend’s situation. Did the procedure have anything to do with their smoking?

Smoking decreases the amount of oxygen that can be delivered by the cardiovascular system. Smoking after surgery can prevent proper healing in tissues that have been insulted by the surgery. Lots of surgeons would rather not operate than face the risk of malpractice suits for bad results.

Doctor refused to.operating on me until I.didn’t show nicotine of any kind. Even when I explained it was gum and didn’t affect my lungs. Didn’t care care.
