Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke out Friday against Congressional Republicans strategy to defund Obamacare, holding that it is not effective.
Were more effective tactically not to use a shutdown of some kind to pursue the anti-Obamacare objective, Romney told CNN. I dont think that will be as effective.
Romneys comments are scheduled to appear on Fridays episode of CNNs The Lead with Jake Tapper.
(Also on POLITICO: Viewers guide to shutdown drama)
Both chambers of Congress must pass a continuing resolution, or CR, by Sept. 30 to keep the government from shutting down.
Earlier this week, the Republican-held House passed a CR that would defund the Presidents signature health law, the Affordable Care Act, in an effort to force a vote on defunding Obamacare in the Senate. The strategy has resulted in divisions within the Republican Party, with one faction aggressively pursuing Obamacare defunding through the CR and others decrying the tactic as irresponsible.
On Friday, a version of the continuing resolution was passed in the Senate with the defunding language stripped, essentially putting the onus of a government shutdown back on the House and preventing interference with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
I think theres a better way of getting rid of Obamacare, Romney said. [D]elaying it by at least a year. That was Senator Manchins idea, the Democrats idea.
The other [option] would be potentially working hard to get Republicans elected to the House and Senate and theyd be able to do in a traditional way, Romney said.
This from the guy who lost to both McCain for the nomination in 2008 and to Obama in the 2012 presidential election.
Go count your money and get the hell off the stage Mittens.
pvaudine
I see that Mitt is not a wartime Consigliere.. Too bad nobody cares what he has to say.
Let’s start a rumor that Romney is running again in the primaries for 2016 and see how many heads explode.
Don’t you know that Romney would have been much worse than Obama turned out to be? /s
It’s high time you joined the FR hate Romney, love Obama Club. /s
Yes, this Post required a double sarc...
BTW - The Levin Rule, “Vote your Candidate in the Primary and Vote your Party’s Candidate in the General” doesn’t apply because Obama is just so dreamy.
Live in Hopey Changey, die is Despair. It’s the new Obamaesque motto to replace “Live Free or Die”.
Meanwhile, Omega Man is playing on TCM as we speak. I’m sure the pasty faced guys would have Voted Obama.
There is zero love for Obama on this site.
You can dislike both of them. Most of us seem to.
Yes, but only one of them is destroying the Republic.
I dislike him a little more.
It seems there are as many threads bashing the Republican loser as there are bashing the Communist winner. That’s my point in case you missed it.
The continuing Romney HATE Threads are getting old. He won the Primaries, much to everyone’s chagrin, and he lost the General to a true Marxist.
It’s over, but the harping continues day in and day out around here. I wanted Newt and he folded, too bad, so sad.
Spit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first. That’s about all these Threads accomplish.
BTW - I must congratulate you. I think you broke the record for the fastest Reply to a Post you disagreed with.
Good job FRiend.
Whichever of them won would have been destroying it. McCain, McConnell, Graham etc etc are also destroying the Republic.
I disagree with your personal assertion that socialized medecine and the government advocacy of homosexuality are not destroying the Republic.
Good try. I will never agree that Romney would have been worse than Obama.
I do agree that the Establishment Republican Party has turned itself into nothing more than Communist Sympathizers, and we know who the Communists are.
>”I disagree with your personal assertion that socialized medecine and the government advocacy of homosexuality are not destroying the Republic”
When did I say that?
Oh that’s right, I didn’t. Good try though.
I am shocked to discover that the godfather of Mengelecare is part of the GOP surrrender caucus.
The GOP made the mistake of putting three Doormat Republicans in for the final innings of three important POTUS Games.
Batter “Doormat” Dole struck out first, “Doormat” McCain struck out second, and then “Doormat” Romney was called out on three strikes right down the middle.
All that training, and he didn’t even swing! In fact, the bat never left his shoulder. However, Romney did have a great smile and good hair.
With the POTUS Game lost, the GOP Big Tent fell into disrepair.
Gradually, the increasing stench made it obvious that the old GOP had died when Romney lost in 2012.
We are just now finally casting off the dead weight of the old GOP in the Senate.
We are looking forward to Senate Primary Season.
The lingering stench of the putrid GOP dead weight was decreased a lot this week by nice cool breezes coming out of TEXAS and Utah.
One benefit of a battle is to find out who your hidden enemies are.

,I> Vote your Partys Candidate in the General
I do what I can do to get my choice of Candidate selected as the Nominee during the Primaries. If my guy loses, as Newt did, I support whoever is running against the Democrat Communist in the General Election.
You disagree, so be it. Just don’t complain about what the Democrat does when they are elected POTUS. I agree with Mark Levin, you agree with who, James Carville?
People here are complaining about the guy who DIDN’T WIN. Gee, that makes sense.
WHY? Do we lose our first amendment for not supporting the GOPE RINO's?
I don't think so.
