Exxon Mobil Corp. said Friday that it will begin offering benefits to legally married same-sex couples in the U.S. for the first time starting next week.
The company says it will recognize "all legal marriages" when it determines eligibility for health care plans for the company's 77,000 employees and retirees in the U.S.
That means if a gay employee has been married in a state or country where gay marriage is legal, his or her spouse will be eligible for benefits with Exxon in the U.S. as of Oct. 1.
Exxon, which is facing a same-sex discrimination complaint in Illinois, said it was following the lead of the U.S. government. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, which had allowed states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages granted in other states. In recent months, federal agencies have begun to offer benefits to legally-married same sex couples.

Koch Industries and all of their subsidiaries will do the same.
I got my notice in company email today.
I thought gays were supposed to be socially conscious. Why would they want to work for a “horrible, ecology wrecking” company like Exxon?
Any protest about this? Any activism within the companies? Or is it all over?
I just found out today that a ‘girl” that I work with
is unavailable for assignment later in the year
because “she” is going on “paternity” leave
because her “wife” is having a baby.
I have less than 2 years left before I retire
and it is all I can do to just bite my lip
and not say what I really think.
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.
On FR, how can you block all the same-sex crap from showing up on my list. So sick of that crap.
does that mean theyll drop coverage of unmarried gay couples?
I would imagine that they weren’t providing it before.
There are plenty of oil field jobs for those who will agree to Exxon’s social and political pathologies without argument.
Some groups and carriers are already covering “partners”. Under relationship they are referred to as “other” or “family”.
I guess I will be sliding the Exxon station, let the queers support it.
The Board has reviewed in detail ExxonMobils existing global policies that prohibit all forms of discrimination, including those based on sexual orientation and gender identity, in any Company workplace, anywhere in the world. In fact, ExxonMobils policies go beyond the law and prohibit any form of discrimination. Based on these existing all-inclusive, zero-tolerance policies, the Board believes the proposal is unnecessary.
