Senators from both parties linked arms to defy Sen. Ted Cruz, overcoming his attempt to filibuster the stopgap spending bill, which allowed Democrats to add back in full funding for Obamacare and power the bill through the chamber.
The 79-19 vote saw 25 Republicans join with all Democrats to advance the bill, easily overcoming Mr. Cruz and his allies who had argued this was the key point that would determine whether major parts of President Obamas health care law take effect next week.
Once that hurdle was cleared, the rest of the votes were preordained. The Senate waived budget rules, voted to strip out the Obamacare defunding on a 54-44 party line vote, and passed the bill.
The bill now heads back to the House, where Republicans are struggling to figure out a path forward, trapped between a right wing which insists on full defunding and Senate Democrats, who just proved that stance cannot succeed.
This is like the movie High Noon. The two sides are walking down the street. I just hope that like the movie High Noon, I hope the good guys win, said Sen. Tom Harkin, an Iowa Democrat who accused Mr. Cruz and his allies of being anarchists, hoping to destroy government altogether.
He said the country is facing a situation every bit as dangerous as the lead-up to the Civil War....

And Kansas - our 2 Roberts and Moran voted with us
Sorry you feel like that. O’ Reilly and Krauthammer said the same thing BEFORE Cruz spoke.
I heard him speak. I went to sleep aroud 9 or so then got up again around 12 mindnight and stayed up the rest of the time. I’ve never been so energized about the political scenery than that morning.
Jimmy Carter woke us all up. I think people in this country need to experience the pure depth of what we’ve become, then we’ll throw the bums out.
I look to Cruz to be the real deal. We lost this battle, but there’s more to do, and the real fight is in the House.
After the shenanigans in the senate I’ll never again give a penny to the repubs...only to conservatives. I’ve got about 30 years left if I am lucky. Not a cent.
No republican should have voted yes.
Let the democrats have all the glory.
Let them own Obamascare, lock stock and barrel.
It’s time to take back the repub party from
the quisling senators and so called leaders.
Hat raised to Kansas! Carry on my wayward son!!!
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants... bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society. Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors. [but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Feckin’ mentally ill lesbian beotch. I am so SO sorry that Wisconsin unleashed her upon the rest of you.
We had no choice, really...
They must have given Rubio permission to vote “No”.
Here,Here!
Amen brother. Cruz and Palin types wouldn’t want it any other way. Give glory to God in everything we do.
Indeed. Tyranny will be worse as history has shown. Our red line has to be defended or we’ll look like N.Korea in 20 years.
The GOP made the mistake of putting three Doormat Republicans in for the final innings of three important POTUS Games.
Batter Doormat Dole struck out first, Doormat McCain struck out second, and then Doormat Romney was called out on three strikes right down the middle.
All that training, and he didnt even swing! In fact, the bat never left his shoulder. However, Romney did have a great smile and good hair.
With the POTUS Games lost, the GOP Big Tent fell into disrepair.
Gradually, the increasing stench made it obvious that the old GOP had died when Romney lost in 2012.
We are just now finally casting off the dead weight of the old GOP in the Senate.
We are looking forward to the Senate Primary Season.
The lingering stench of the putrid GOP dead weight was decreased a lot this week by nice cool breezes coming out of TEXAS and Utah.
One benefit of a battle is to find out for sure who your hidden enemies are.
