(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Ted Cruz (R.-Texas) said today on a conference call the even if the Senate passes a continuing resolution that permits funding of Obamacare the fight to defund it is not over--because Obamacare cannot be funded unless the Republican-controlled House of Representatives agrees to do it.
House Republicans can, and I believe should, continue to stand their ground, said Cruz. And, so, if the House holds firm, Harry Reid has no ability to muscle the House of Representativesif they stand their ground.
Cruz said that the cloture vote the Senate will hold Friday on the House-passed version of the CR is the most important vote that senators will cast this year. In his view, that is because if at least 41 of 46 Republicans do not vote against clotureand thus prevent the bill from coming to a final vote in the SenateHarry Reid, at this point in time, will be able to get simple majority vote of at least 51 Democrats to attach an amendment to the CR stripping the language defunding Obamacare.
Nonetheless, Cruz said, if that happens the fight is not over because the bill must then go back to the House, and Obamacare cannot be funded unless the Republican-controlled House agrees to it.
Number one, if enough Senate Republicans on tomorrows cloture vote decide to vote with Harry Reid and grant cloture to give Harry Reid the authority to fund Obamcare, that does not mean the fight is over, said Cruz. It means Harry Reid will pass out of the Senate a continuing resolution that funds Obamacare, but it still goes back to the House.
And even if Senate Republicans have not shown the same strength of will that House Republicans have shown, that doesnt mean the fight is over because House Republicans can, and I believe should, continue to stand their ground, said Cruz.
So, if the House holds firm, Harry Reid has no ability to muscle the House of Representativesif they stand their ground, Cruz said.
I have said before I think the most important role that I can play that [Sen.] Mike Lee [R.-Utah] can play, that others can play, is to serve as a cheerleader encouraging and supporting the House Republicans to stand with the American people, said Cruz. Because the continuing resolution that the House passed reflects the strong will of the American people who understand that Obamcare is not working.
Here’s Toomey’s statement..and of course he sidesteps the cloture vote.....doing just what Cruz said they would do...
Sen. Toomey Issues Statement On Obamacare & CR
Wednesday, Sep 25
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) has released the following statement on Obamacare and the House-passed continuing resolution (CR) currently under consideration in the Senate:
“From the start, my goal has been, and continues to be, to completely repeal the President’s health care law as soon as possible. Obamacare hurts our economy, shrinks paychecks, and moves our health care system in the wrong direction. It is simply not fixable.
“With President Obama in the White House and the Democratic party controlling the Senate, full repeal, unfortunately, cannot be achieved now. However, I believe that, right now, we can delay and dismantle some of the most egregious flaws in this law - flaws which have been acknowledged by lawmakers in both parties. I, therefore, intend to offer reasonable amendments that would help achieve this objective, including for instance, a measure to repeal the health care law’s medical device tax which drives up costs for patients and threatens Pennsylvania jobs.
“If Majority Leader Reid insists on granting himself the power to gut the House-passed bill with 51 votes, while preventing me and other Senators from even offering amendments with broad bipartisan support, I will vote against cloture on the bill.”
Well said and so true.
I truly believe that’s why McQueeg was so ticked yesterday after Sen. Cruz’ filibuster, the turkey knows it.
A simpler solution is to show these RINOs the door and give them a good swift kick in the backside on the way out, starting with the Weeper of the House!
We are fixing to find out how many Republicans we have in the House.
Boils down to that really.
Repeal the whole danged thing. Repealing the medical device tax is not enough.
Permit me one change to your post and you would be correct.
The fact that he’s the POTUS notwithstanding.... for Obama has proven that he is “ a politician who is willing to damage the military and reduce it’s effectiveness for a decade into the future to achieve his socialist aims is a terrorist.”
not only that he sends US weaponry into the hands of muslim terrorists... his friends.
Cruz has really laid bare the true nature of the bottom feeders and paltroons in the GOP. Having been so identified maybe we can now eradicate them & send them back home where they can wallow with the rest of us in the sewer they helped create.
Yeah! 38 D's!
Sorry Cruz, you have fought gallantly and showed what a leader with a spine is supposed to look like, but that simply way, WAY too big of an IF there for us to be able to count on it.
I bet the weeper of the house was bullied when he was in grade school and liked it.
Blessings, bobo
Amen. And that’s the truth. The founders set it up this way for the specific purpose of thwarting an out of control chief executive and senate. They were very wise men. If only our people’s representatives in the house have the courage to carry out their constitutional duty to save the republic with the constitutional powers provided.
Prayers up!
And I was thinking of gonads. Didn’t think of it that way. Whoremones is probably a better choice.
Blessings, Bobo
BTW forgive my spelling.
Hold the line, there newbie. This is FR. We fight for freedom here and do not surrender!
Well I’ll take Sen. Cruz’ efforts on this whole fiasco even with the IF’s over what came out of McQueeg’s mouth yesterday as well as many other RINO’s.
Remember something, there’s few things we can count on in politics but we can count on Sen. Cruz to do his best for Conservatives.
Repealing the medical device tax is not enough.
*********
A lot of Dems are already getting pressure to repeal the medical tax. So this issue is not the basis to declare any kind of victory; it just gets the Dems an excuse to rid themselves of an unworkable problem.
The Republican “leadership” is a ship of fools.
Amen to that.
Sen. Cruz is trying valiantly to light a fire under our representatives, I pray he’s successful.
Put me on the Ted Cruz ping list please!
