Liberalism and Mass Shootings

One thing generally overlooked in the uproar over the Washington Navy Yard shooting -- and all other recent mass shootings -- is that guns are being used to shield failed liberal policies. Such policies have been implicated in most, if not all, gun massacres. As is customary when encountering failure, liberals immediately cast around looking for someone or something else to blame, in this case, guns and anything associated with them, including the NRA, the bitter clingers, and so on.

�-� Gun-Free Zones -- According to John Lott, Jr. every last mass killing since the 1950s has occurred in a "gun-free zone." The Navy Yard massacre is only the latest. In an early example of using the military to pioneer obnoxious social doctrines, Bill Clinton signed a bill in March 1993 rendering military bases "gun free." As with similar civilian venues, this action in effect put up a sign saying, "Come on in and Kill People." Major Nidal Hasan and now Aaron Alexis have taken advantage of this offer, along with Jared Loughner, James Holmes, Adam Lanza, and Cho Seung-hui. While we can't force school boards, mall owners, or theater operators to cease putting students and customers in jeopardy, this can be accomplished quite simply as regards the military by an order from the Secretary of Defense.

�-� Criminal Background Checks -- It's no coincidence that this latest shooting occurred in the midst of a governmental push to outlaw criminal background checks for employment purposes. Laws of this type have been passed in California and Newark, N.J. The Obama and Holder federal government can't be far behind. He could have also mentioned wrecking of cultural norms as another liberal “contribution” to our culture. Kids would bring guns to school in the fifties during hunting season.

I was born in 1966, and my childhood in the seventies was closer to what Reed describes than to current conditions. The crime rate was high in the seventies, but nobody was shooting up schools yet. As Reed says, it was understood that there were some things you just don’t do.

In 1984 James Huberty a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.
In 1986 Patrick Sherril a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.
In 1990 James Pough a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.
In 1991 George Hennard a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 23 people in a Lubys cafeteria.
In 1995 James Daniel Simpson a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.
In 1999 Larry Asbrook a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 8 people at a church service.
In 2001 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the US.
In 2003 Douglas Williams a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.
In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung - Hui Cho shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech .
In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.
In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes went into a Colorado movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.
In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger a disgruntled Democrat shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis.
On 9/16/2013, another mentally ill liberal, Aaron Alexis, killed 12 innocents at the Navy Yard in Washington DC.

One could go on, but you get the point, even if the media does not.

Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats having guns.

No NRA members, No Tea Party members, or No Republican conservatives are/were involved.

SOLUTION: It should be illegal for Democrats to own guns.

Too bad the author makes a few mistakes. They tend to detract from the overall article.

John Lott notes that all mass shootings *except for one* since 1950 occurred in gun free zones. The single exception was the attack in Tucson in 2011 (Jared Loughner).

Similarily, the author claims that eliminating the murders from the District of Columbia, Chicago, New Orleans, and Detroit would make result in the U.S. having one of the lowest murder rates in the industrialized world.

For 2011, Chicago, 436, New Orleans, 199, Washington D.C. 108, Detroit - 344 . The total for all four cities is 1,087, a considerable number, to be sure. But eliminate them all, and the U.S. murder rate only drops by about seven percent.

If you eliminate crime associated with the subcultures that do not exist in Europe in any numbers, African Americans and American Hispanics, the murder rate for the remaining U.S. citizens drops right to the middle of industrialized Europe (if we arbitrarily exclude the former east block and Russia, with their high homicide rates).
