For months now, we’ve been waiting to hear how much Obamacare will drive up the cost of health insurance for people who purchase coverage on their own. Last night, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services finally began to provide some data on how Americans will fare on Obamacare’s federally-sponsored insurance exchanges. HHS’ press release is full of happy talk about how premiums will be “lower than originally expected.” But the reality is starkly different.

Based on a Manhattan Institute analysis of the HHS numbers, Obamacare will increase underlying insurance rates for younger men by an average of 97 to 99 percent, and for younger women by an average of 55 to 62 percent. Worst off is North Carolina, which will see individual-market rates triple for women, and quadruple for men.

This ought to get millions of outraged citizens marching on Washington with blood in their eyes, but it apparently won’t. Has the population been so neutered that that they will accept any outrage? The GOPe leadership is clearly betting that they will or they would have assured that Obamacare is defunded rather than joining with the Democrats in denouncing Ted Cruz and conspiring to fund the end of the US as a free country.

Just wait. Sen. Cruz has lit a brushfire, but these things take time. Just think of how far we have come since 2000. In 2000, the establishment was stunned by the relatively small protests outside of algore's "house" because conservatives were thought to be incapable of making their voices heard. Fast forward to 2009, when 1.5 million showed up in DC.

As this trainwreck of a legislation takes hold, people will remember who stood up in opposition, and who didn't. This is not the end of the fight, but rather the decisive point where we find who our friends are, and who the traitors are.

It is not enough to merely voice opposition to the Alexanders and McConnells of the world. Every person who cares about this country needs to do whatever they can to ensure that they are defeated (even if it means a smaller Republican party).
