Top U.S. law enforcement officials urged the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday to promptly issue a promised set of rules governing the sale of e-cigarettes, adding to a growing body of legal and public health officials demanding action.
In 2009, the FDA was given authority to regulate cigarettes, cigarette tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco, although not pipe tobacco, cigars or e-cigarettes. The law allows the FDA to expand its authority over all tobacco products, but it must first issue new regulations. The FDA has said they are in development.

Seems like another instance of lawlessness on the part of the Obama administration. Sure, they have the authority to regulate tobacco products, but e-cigarettes don't contain tobacco. So how can they possibly justify their regulation of e-cigarettes under this law?
The guess is that Big Tobacco is lobbying for federal government regulation of e-cigarettes in order to stifle competition from new rival enterprises (e-cigarette manufacturers), and that the Administration is in bed with its "evil enemy."

Brcause they think they can. Who in their right mind would have ever thought a mayor could ban a 32 oz soda 5 years ago. Chocolate and cokes are probably next on the chopping block or they will make them so expensive you won’t buy them as much. Of course you will find those very items in the legislators homes that sign the bill as well as the POTUS. They want to regulate very part of your life for profit. Regulate = increased profits for those with the whips in hand. They won’t bring that part up if you ask them about it though.

I’m guessing they want to make money both ways.
E-cigs by themselves are just a battery and a coil which, when heated, vaporizes the E-juice. To regulate e-cig devices as a nicotine product is simply ridiculous.
If you want to make an argument for regulating anything, it would have to be the E-juice, which contains the nicotine. However, there are E-juices that contain no nicotine at all, for those who've kicked the nicotine addiction but wish to continue vaping.
The greatest addiction with the most adverse consequences is the addiction to Big Government. When is Big Government going to do something about that?
point taken. thank you.
On what basis??!! Just because they’ve found some tiny pocket of freedom not being regulated to death and that just feels un-Amerikan? Or what?
It’s because e-cigs work, and therefore tax revenues are down. I know several people who got off real cigs because of them. And I, thanks to e-cigs, have been analog-free for four years.
Yes, but they couldn’t sell that one to the public. If people demand to know the reason, then whatever lie they offer should be able to be dismantled, because the reason will be inadequate (because it has to be).
This is beyond obscene. There is such precious little as far as proof the e cigarettes are anything close to a national health issue, and the nanny state totalitarians don’t even have the arguments they do with regards to regular cigarettes on pollution of the air and ground and what not.
They want absolute domination over peoples’ lives. That is all they got here.
Then they will have to regulate nicotine gum and patches.
Indeed. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Now if the "public health" advocates really wanted to end smoking they would be encouraging things which are so successful, not trying to kill the multitude of very small businesses which have brought us the best smoking cessation aid ever. But we all know that isn't what they really want, and in fact they don't care if I live or die, or you, or probably even their own mother.
