Cruz warns Senate Republicans not to break his filibuster

Sen. Ted Cruz’s message to his fellow Republicans as the potential government shutdown looms is clear: A cloture vote for the continuing resolution is a vote in favor of Obamacare.

In an interview with CNN, Cruz rejected the notion that his plan to pass a continuing resolution in the Senate that defunds Obamacare is doomed to failure. He called on Republicans to vote against cloture on the bill that would bring it to an up or down vote.

“Any senator who votes for cloture on this bill is voting to give Harry Reid the authority to fund Obamacare with just 51 votes,” Cruz said.

As a fellow Texan, I am proud to have Senator Cruz represent our state. I already sent Senator Cornyn emails urging him to support Cruz. Cornyn is up for re-election next year and I hope we have a strong primary candidate because I don’t plan on supporting Cornyn.

Cruz is correct. How many times have we seen Republicans vote for cloture and then claim they did not vote for a law.

In fact voting for cloture in this case is voting for the law and they cannot hide.

You break it you bought it.

A number of sources said that the first vote comes a 1 pm today after Reid takes back the floor from Cruz, per an agreement.

Also I heard the House CR has language that allows priorization of spending when the debt limit is not increased, so as not to default.

And Reid will take that out too.

Cornyn should start planning his retirement. There is no chance he will retain his seat after his craven cowardliness. No Texan admires a coward.

“According to Cruz, he asked Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to agree on a 60-vote requirement to pass the funding bill, which Reid refused”

Harry Reid objects to taking the government shutdown off the table in the Obamacare funding battle. It’s not like it was a private conversation. If Republicans vote for cloture at this point, they’ll be caving to Reid.

I listened to about four hours of Cruz last night. He quoted Madison, Hamilton, Bastiat and others I've forgotten.

He described the sham legislative process the rats used in 2010, our headlong dive into despotism unless the left is stopped . . . followed by letters/emails/tweets from constituents.

IOW, he shredded Obamacare. Completely.

This vote will decide if the GOP remains a viable party.

That’s exactly Olympia Snowe did and how we ended up with ObamaCare. She crossed the aisle and provided Democrats with the last vote necessary for cloture then proceeded to vote against final passage.

If the GOP funds this mess, it’s RINOcare.

Olympia Snowe (RINO-Maine) did this to bless us with ObamaCare.

She had the sense, though, not to run again. I expect that Dems could have run a wooden Indian against and won by a landslide.

The GOP lost its’ way when they allowed liberals like McCain to lead the party. They need to learn how to be on offense rather than defense all the time. Nobody wants to support a constant loser and whiner. It’s time for the young lions in the party to lead and do more than put up token opposition.

I’m with you. I hope we have a strong candidate also.
Got email from Corny ....

Do you support or oppose shutting down certain parts of the federal government in order to try to prevent implementation of ObamaCare?

I agree. Sadly, Cornyn lacks a strong competitor in the primary. I wish it were possible to run Tom Delay who now resides in Virginia. Maybe Rafael Cruz would consider running, or Congressman Ted Poe. Even Rick Perry looks good compared to Cornyn. I pray someone will come forward before the December deadline and retire the despicable Cornyn. This issue should be number one for Texas Tea Party agenda.
