To understand the crisis in Washington, tune out the histrionics and look at the big picture: Republicans are threatening to shut down the federal government and perhaps even refuse to let the Treasury pay its creditors in a desperate, last-ditch attempt to keep millions of Americans from getting health insurance.
Seriously. Thats what all the yelling and screaming is about. As my grandmother used to say, its hard to know whether to laugh or cry.

Tom Toles on health care: A collection of cartoons on the debate.
The GOP has tried its best to make Obamacare a synonym for bogeyman and convince people that its coming in the night to snatch the children. In fact, and I know this comes as a shock to some, Obamacare is not a mythical creature. It is a law, incorporating what were originally Republican ideas, that will make it possible for up to 30 million people now lacking health insurance to obtain it.
Officially, the law in question is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Republicans intended the term Obamacare to be mocking, which is perhaps why President Obama started using it with pride.
It is, indeed, an achievement of which the nation can be proud. About 48 million individuals in this country lacked health insurance in 2012, according to the Census Bureau, representing about 15 percent of the population. Other industrialized nations provide universal health care and wonder if this is what we mean when we talk about American exceptionalism.

The real danger is that it strips “limited government” from the constitution. And it strips we the people our God-given individual rights. It sets the SCOTUS approved precedent that the government can demand anything it wishes of we the people and force us to their will rather than our own!
Boy, that Talking Point really made the rounds. They say this constantly. It's a law. It's a law.
It's a law that Obama is shielding his friends from. It's not a law for everyone -- just a law for the suckers with no pull.
Anytime I read something like this, I’m reminded of the “Left Behind” series and the global news network that worships the Antichrist.
Boy, that Talking Point really made the rounds. They say this constantly. It's a law. It's a law.
Yep, these democrats would have been good little Nazis had they lived in Germany around 1935....All Jews to the camps? It's a law! It's a law!
They know that the sheeple will buy this crap, that is why they print it.
How did THAT ever get changed, if "it is a law" is the final word on everything?

A law for thee but not for me.......:)
Republicans are threatening to shut down the federal government and perhaps even refuse to let the Treasury pay its creditors.
Republicans have no such power

Excellent point that needs and deserves frequent repetition.
We fight as hard as we can to defund this (knowing that Dirty Harry Reid, the RINOs and Obama will not let that happen) (don't allow anything to get "delayed"... either defund/repeal or nothing)... then starting in 2014 with the Senate controlled by conservatives and Office of President controlled by a conservative, we fix this mess by repealing it.
Succeed? It is already a train wreck that is costing employees full time positions, closing hospitals and doctors offices, hurting the quality of care people receive, etc. On what planet is this succeeding?
obama’s goals for obamacare are that it destroys our current medical system, gives much more power over us to the government, and wastes even more of the middle class’s wealth. (The goal is NOT delivery of health care to those who aren’t insured. That won’t happen.)
That is success to him. Yes, that would be very bad for the GOP... and the rest of the country.
They left off the part that says, "and laws can be changed."
“About 48 million individuals in this country lacked health insurance in 2012,....”
Note: “individuals”, not “citizens”.
I’m absolutely secure in the belief that absolutely NOTHING good can come out of a process that was THIS corrupt.
Succeed in ending private insurance and private doctors practices, hospitals will close, it will be against the law to pay cash for medical treatment.
