Pregnant Harvard grad among victims at Kenyan mall
Boston Herald ^ | September 24, 2013

A pregnant woman who was a recent Harvard School of Public Health graduate was among more than 60 people murdered by Islamic terrorists in an upscale Kenyan mall, along with the father of her unborn child.

HSPH faculty members recalled yesterday Elif Yavuz, 33, as an expert on malaria, and as a remarkable student who had a flair for colorful fashion and a great sense of humor.“We are all in shock. She was such a wonderful person,” Thomas Bossert, director of the school’s international health services program, told the Herald. -

Just read that her and hubby specifically choose Kenya to give birth, because of it’s reputation. Can’t quite decide what the heck that means, but she was a staffer for Clinton so I guess she was a bit ‘open’.

Regardless, it is just plain sad that lives were lost.

I remember an episode of House Hunters International where a starry-eyed white American couple were shopping for a house in Nairobi because they wanted to experience African culture.
Here’s to hoping they weren’t at the mall when the slaughter began.

I’m sorry for what happened but a pregnant white lady from Harvard in Kenya only means one thing. A liberal who insists on being “diverse and tolerant” by mixing it up with the Kenyans. Her “partner” was there as well.

because they wanted to experience African culture.

They could have done that by moving to any major American inner city.

(Ducking for cover).

Nairobi is no "cesspool." It's a modern cosmopolitan city. Its international airport rivals any in the developed world. Nairobi is where I went to decompress, clean up, and breath free after places like the Congo, Rwanda, and Niger. Those are "cesspools." It's an R and R spot for the military of many nations. Nairobi is where you go for medical treatment, if you couldn't reach Europe, and yes, where you went to deliver your baby. Restaurants, shopping districts, and game parks. I could walk its streets, and feel safer there than anywhere else on the continent.

All that said, however, Nairobi atmospherics are dangerously deceptive. It is a crossroads for many of the continent's more nefarious characters. A city with a critically high crime rate. It's where such things as a garden variety residential burglary usually consists of a vehicle ramming through the front gate of your compound's perimeter wall, and plunging through your front door. 20 or so assailants armed with edged weapons then pour through breached defenses, hacking to death all those found inside the residence. It is a place that leads the continent with a spectacularly high death rate in its automobile accidents. A Nairobi car crash with 10-15 fatalities is not uncommon. It is, after all, Africa. You pays your money, and you takes your chance.

You could go home for your pregnancy and birth of the child. Pregnancy used to be called “confinement” for a reason. A good reason.

She wasn't in a yurt in the middle of the Gobi desert. She was in a major metropolitan area with fully functioning health care, probably among the best in Africa. There was no medical threat to her or her unborn child.

Do you know Mohamed’s mother’s name? If not, you better be armed.

Heh, heh. Your post sounded a but like saying it is the nicest place on the Klingon home planet.

The second paragraph made me think of the movie “Casablanca”.

Were I to be permanently exiled to the African continent, there are only two places I’d choose. One, the best. The other, quite possibly the worst. The former for its creature comforts. The latter for its survivability (completely lawless).

Don’t you realize she was likely on a self-appointed mission to save the world?

Well we currently support a missionary family with seven blonde, blue eyed children who live in Africa.

They are trying to spread the gospel. Would you consider them unintelligent?

First, I don’t blame the victim. I assumed she lived here in America and traveled to Africa while pregnant. I consider that dangerous travel.

Second, one can study disease while away from the field where its victims are infected.

Well, if they are having the kind of burglary you described, then that fits my definition of cesspool. If you have that many criminals running roughshod over citizens, they should take a tougher stand against it. No more kid gloves.

I’d send monetary support to those in need before I’d travel there myself. That is an intelligent choice.

The only way i would go there is if it was a mission to eradicate the vermin filth and the rules of engagement were not the typical suicide mission kind like zero enforces.

Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

He didn’t specify which locales to avoid.

The baby is lucky she, as a liberal, didn’t abort it already.
