Conservatives were embarrassed to vote in the 2006 and 2008 midterm and presidential elections, even when Sen. John McCain was seeking the presidency, Sen. Ted Cruz says in a wide-ranging interview in Octobers GQ Magazine.
I dont know a conservative who didnt feel embarrassed voting in 2006 or 2008, the Texas Republican said. I think the Republican Party lost its way. We didnt stand for the principles were supposed to believe in.
Cruz and McCain have been butting heads almost from the first moment the tea party-backed freshman senator was sworn into office earlier this year, and his comments in the GQ interview arent likely to endear him to the veteran senator from Arizona who famously called him and fellow Republicans, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, wacko birds back in March.

While I think it lost its way well before 08, it has definitely lost its way.
Another FReeper said it very well: The GOP is to the ‘Rats what the Washington Generals are to the Harlem GLobetrotters.
Cool it Senator Cruz.
That’s Palin’s pond in 2008.
Don’t talk too badly of that year.
Since when was Palin all of the GOP back in 2008?
Just saying.
Would like to keep those two fighting on the same side.
:D
Well the only reason I voted for McCain was Sarah was VP....Will never make that mistake again..BYE BYE GOP...Tea Party candidates or nothing..
I sure don’t think Palin is going to jump to McCain’s defense any time soon.
Well that’s not going to endear him to McStain. Good!
I dunno.
That seems to be a Palin vulnerability.
Frankly I am a huge, from before McCain even nominated Palin fan, but he did seem to win Palin’s loyalty in the process.
That’s the one thing I don’t expect ever to hear from Palin.
(Any) criticism of McCain. Even the stuff he deserves.
On everything else she’s so far and away ahead of everyone else, I can look the other way about McCain.
But of all the stuff to be sold out about, it has to be a ... (well, he did nominate her though)
:D
2007 :Bush pushing amnesty
2008 :nomination of rancid McCain
2008- :backstabbing of Palin, then tea-party movement
2012 :nominating MA liberal Romney
2013 :GOP-E again pushing amnesty
A quick encapsulation of why this longtime supporter and exclusive-GOP voter, politically weened in the era of Reagan, no longer has the slightest bit of trust, faith, or respect in the Republican Party... even to the point of leaving a certain ballot totally blank in 2012.
No cooling it. Cruz is dead-on. Palin being on the ticket is to sole reason many bothered to even vote and it was still a hold your nose moment from the over-powering Hanoi John RINO “reach across the aisle” stench.
Indeed, Cruz is spot on.
The GOP started to lose it’s way when the first Bush (read my lips, no new taxes) was elected.

Ted Cruz Ping!
If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know.
Please beware, it is a high-volume ping list!
You and I graduated in the same political class, it seems.
