B/S. If the house doesn’t appropriate the money, they don’t get it. The house has the final say in the matter per the US Constitution. The Senate must approve appropriations, but they cannot make them.

I’m with you. The House allocates the funds and they should never fund ocare. If the gov’t stayed shutdown until the 2014 election we could save a lot of money. We have bo in a corner with the budget and debt limit but do the repubs have the courage to win.

His contortions and struggles to avoid the heart of his argument: “Republicans Senators will fold and then the House will too” are blatant.
But he never addresses what happens if the Republican Senators don’t fold which, ahem, is the strategy.

How about this: it’s a stragegery to delay Obamacare by a year. If this happens, it will be front-and-center in the 2014 mid-term elections, and if Democrats lose control of the House, the delay becomes permanent.
I’m thinking it’s like going for a tie so the game goes into overtime rather than a long-shot to win it right now.
Republicans are supposed to be the opposing party and they control the purse strings.
I support total opposition to Obamacare with no caving in and no debt ceiling increase.
Let Obama play the dictator role to force through what he wishes, but our representatives should not be party to the economic destruction of the country through Obamacare and higher debt ceilings.
So roll over and expect everyone one to vote for you in 2014?

Unfortunately ObamaCare is like Don't Ask Don't Tell. It is an interim placeholder for another goal. Don't Ask Don't Tell was always going to lead eventually to gays openly serving in the military. Similarly ObamCare has always been about single payer.
If ObamaCare is allowed to pass and then found wanting, it will not be repealed and replaced by private insurance. Instead, it will be repealed or altered into single payer.
Ted Cruz's action are one last (most likely futile) gasp to prevent the complete government takeover of the medical insurance industry.
He may not be successful in his effort, but it's nice to see that someone is willing to fight for what's right rather than do some deal that only helps the Republicans in the short run and will hurt all Americans in the long run.
A "government shutdown" would be the same.

The U.S. Senate has some arcane procedural rules, and as ordinary Americans our eyes glaze over trying to decipher them. But it’s important for us to understand that Sen. Ted Cruz’s efforts to defund Obamacare are worthwhile and doable.
We shouldn’t preemptively surrender the fight to those who rammed through this outrageously burdensome and unaffordable ploy for government control of health care even though some are trying to convince us that the fight is futile. Just because a fight isn’t easy, doesn’t mean it’s not worth fighting.
This defund movement boils down to a very simple request. As Andrew McCarthy recently pointed out: “Obama himself has already unilaterally and unconstitutionally defunded aspects of Obamacare, including repugnant accommodations for big corporations, Obama insiders, and members of Congress.” All we’re asking is that the rest of America “get the same relief from this awful law that Obama cronies, the ruling class, and the politically-connected get.”
Please call your senators and politely ask them to stand with Senator Cruz. This is especially important if your senator is a Democrat up for re-election in a red state in 2014. That would be Senators Mark Begich (D-AK), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), and Kay Hagan (D-NC). Remind them politely that we are watching their votes very carefully and even a procedural vote that shuts down this debate will be regarded as a vote for Obamacare, and there will be consequences for them at the ballot box next year. The same goes for Republicans up for re-election. We definitely expect them to stand shoulder to shoulder with Senator Cruz through thick and thin.

No one, EVER, said this would work in. the. senate.
Cruz, Lee nor Paul, now Palin, none of them, EVER, said the senate would lend aid and comfort to Cruz, roll over, or pass this CR to defund, but there CAN be a “NO” vote on cloture, IF, we get up, stand up and fight on the phone lines before we have to fight on life lines. :)
This entire effort is about US. You and me. It’s the sound of the shofar calling US to rally. That’s IT.
Mr. Taranto is quite bright. But he is also a tory and a loyalist for the gop/’rat uniparty.
What Mr. Taranto fails to recognize is that absent some fairly dramatic actions on the part of elected so-called conservatives, real conservatives will be leaving DC to its own devices. They won’t be throwing in the towel, though. They’ll be moving to the state legislatures and the topic they’ll be discussing isn’t going to be some white paper written by a beltway think tank, it’ll instead be how to get a divorce.
What Mr. Taranto fails to recognize is that the sentiment for secession is building in the more conservative areas of the country.

How many time are conservatives going to play Charlie Brown to the RINO Lucys? We all know the football is going to be pulled away and yet we get our hopes up. Sadly, this whole effort is just mental masturbation, kabuki theatre if you will. In the end the Republicans will fold because they are afraid of being called mean by the NY Times and WaPo crowd. Our voices are just the annoying gnats in the background at an otherwise happy picnic.
All they have to do is fight to keep funding out. We can get the votes, but it’s an uphill fight. The next CR, do it again.
I say go for the touchdown now! The House holds all the constitutional cards. Go for the WIN!! By the way, the CR battle may last a year anyway if Obama/Reid follow through with their threat to shutdown the government and the Rebuplican House holds firm and shoves it right back in their faces (with the backing of the people). Defunding does delay it and either way will lead to a Republican landslide in 2014/2016. The people know the truth, even the government workers who are going to be laid off by Obama’s failed strategies.
