CAIRO (AP) -- An Egyptian court has banned the Muslim Brotherhood group and ordered its assets confiscated in a dramatic escalation of a crackdown by the military-backed government against supporters of the ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.
Egypt state TV said the court issued its ruling on Monday.

A kinder and gentler way of saying, “your card has been declined”.
“An Egyptian court has banned the Muslim Brotherhood group...”
The SCOTUS should do the same.
Not to worry. hussein will have the staff turn down the 1600 count Egyptian sheets in the Lincoln Bedroom for them.
Youssef: Disastrous MidEast policy implies WH, Muslim Brotherhood in lockstep Wednesday, August 21, 2013 9:09:13 AM · 21 of 21
An Egyptian magazine claims that the six American Islamist activists (pictured above) who work with the Obama administration are Muslim Brotherhood operatives who enjoy strong influence over U.S. policy.
The Dec. 22 story published in Egypts Rose El-Youssef magazine (read an IPT translation here) suggests the six turned the White House from a position hostile to Islamic groups and organizations in the world to the largest and most important supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The story is largely unsourced, but its publication is considered significant in raising the issue to Egyptian readers.

This is all finally coming to light but its too late. The damage has already been done. The six named people include: Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy development; Mohammed Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council; Rashad Hussain, the U.S. special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference; Salam al-Marayati, co-founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC); Imam Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA); and Eboo Patel, a member of President Obamas Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.
Alikhan is a founder of the World Islamic Organization, which the magazine identifies as a Brotherhood subsidiary. It suggests that Alikhan was responsible for the file of Islamic states in the White House and that he provides the direct link between the Obama administration and the Arab Spring revolutions of 2011.
Elibiary, who has endorsed the ideas of radical Muslim Brotherhood luminary Sayyid Qutb, may have leaked secret materials contained in Department of Homeland Security databases, according to the magazine. He, however, denies having any connection with the Brotherhood.
Elibiary also played a role in defining the Obama administrations counterterrorism strategy, and the magazine asserts that Elibiary wrote the speech Obama gave when he told former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to leave power but offers no source or evidence for the claim.
God is not making it easy for the anti-christ to get his party started... looks like the caliphate will have to wait, egypt wants a tourism state...
t
Just like Germany has banned the NAZI party.. The reality is, in some places of the world, there are some groups you just shouldn’t allow to exist.
“egypt wants a tourism state...”
Considering that 80% of Egyptian national funds come from tourism, this is not surprising.
Years ago when the MB would occasionally rise up and schwack a few tourist sites, the locals would turn them in because it hurt their business, badly.
When turmoil was at its peak in Egypt and the election was being held, the MB “won” a split vote and certainly did NOT have a majority behind then. Once elected, the MB were positioning for the “one man, one vote. . .one time” African way of democracy.
The Egyptian military, whose senior leaders have been raised with more of a western mindset and been shaped (as much as they could be) by attending US professional military schools and learning the western approach to serving. The military saw the country going down hard and rolling back hundreds of years to the dark ages and they were forced to act.
Now, with this step done and a few more radicals detained, when the MB is secure in a box, I suspect, I believe, the military will turn over to government to the voters.
Basically, the Egyptian military was fighting to keep some sort of democracy alive in Egypt. They were not seizing power with the aim of abusing power.
Sure sounded like one.
Looks like Egypt feels ready for a war against the Saudi nations.

Bullcrap.
Bullcrap that the muslim brotherhood is banned in Egypt?
or do you mean bullcrap that obama is intertwined with the muslim brotherhood in Egypt?
The former; that it’s banned; that it crap.
Everything about your account, from sign up date right through stupid post, screams sock puppet. Kudos on lasting this long.
If you’re saying I’m not conservative enough, then I can’t help you.
I believe you have a hole in your sock puppet; it might be near the middle.
Regardless of Today’s court verdict, no one can ban Islamism, we can only fight its ideology.
Muslim Brotherhood has effective lobbying groups throughout Europe and other nations abroad so they will not be going silently into the night by any means.....but will continue to gain political power.
However Egypt is simply returning to their former stand on MBS...and for them it’s a good thing and workable. They will still have occasional flareups...but their overall power will be gone in Egypt.
When you have massive instability in your government such as what is going on in Egypt, it is right and proper to ban such organizations. This is not without precedence. Communist parties banned after the fall of the U.S.S.R. and Fascist parties banned in Europe after WWII. If these fledgling arabic democracies want to survive, they should follow the lead of Egypt and Libya and bann religious political parties.
Even in America, you can’t be involved in seditious activities. Free speech does have limits.
