God has blessed this woman with a second chance. I’m glad she’s trying to impart some hard-earned wisdom on young impressionable women. I hope that those reading her story will recognize the truth of it.
What a shock. Why, I thought this was just about the coolest thing a woman could do.
Today’s teenage girls live their lives in harems of their own choice - rampant fornication in commitment-free “relationships” based on pre-marital sex (widely accepted and normalized in American society). When life runs its course on them, they end up as SWUGs - single, washed-up girls. Look it up.
This is the biggest societal tragedy of our times and it just keeps getting worse, thanks to our popularity-based culture.

Appalled by the squalor of their living conditions, horrified by what she saw of a country where women are merely chattels and Westerners are despised, Betty soon became desperate to return to the States. But Moody, and his often vicious family, had other plans. Mother and daughter became prisoners of an alien culture, hostages of an increasingly tyrannical and violent man.

This may sound racist, but I can’t help feeling like these kind of people have the gene for evil.
While every society has its psychopaths, there doesn’t seem to be a culture of it as there is in the Middle East/Asia Minor.

Chesler has written this story before - I have her book which is at least 10 years old. Thank God she survived. She’s a good writer and very committed to the cause of anti-jihadism.
In 1959, I had no idea that islam is so evil, and I would never have condemned an entire religious group. I have since learned that some of the prejudices I saw that time were accurate observations of the cultural norms of certain groups of people.
Just so you all know that there can, sometimes, be another ending to this story my best friend is a Syrian Moslem who married an American woman he met while he was doing his residency in Iowa (he’s a doctor). She converted but only wears a scarf when she goes to mosque, otherwise dresses and acts like any American redhead. They own a lovely home in Michigan and she runs their farm (more a hobby than a business). They have three beautiful children. Before the civil war they visited family in Syria several times and she was never prevented from coming back to the States. So not every story is a horror story.
