To my knowledge I had never met a transsexual until about a year ago. I had a brief conversation with him -- he seemed like an intelligent college kid -- and after he left I said to one of his friends, "I know this sounds ridiculous, but I couldn't tell if your friend is male or female. Which is it?" Their answer was that he had not had "the surgery," but he was "on his way to becoming female." It just seemed sad.
