All of us were horrified by the murders at the Washington Navy Yard this week. Once again, in the aftermath of a shooting, a new installment of the debate about gun laws has broken out. But what we really need is a new discussion about what kind of people we are and what kind of country we want to be.
Its no secret which side Im on in any debate involving the Second Amendment (or the whole Constitution, for that matter). We call Alaska Americas Last Frontier, and firearms are a big part of our lifestyle here because they are part of our frontier tradition. And, as I tell my daughters, the ability to use a firearm responsibly and to defend yourself is also part of our heritage as American women.
The iconic musket over the fireplace wasnt just for the menfolk on the frontier. Those stalwart women who crossed oceans and wilderness to settle our country knew how to protect themselves and their families. (One of my favorite scenes in the miniseries John Adams is when Abigail Adams, alone with her children in besieged Massachusetts while her husband is away at the Continental Congress, shoulders the family musket to protect her little ones when she hears the distant sounds of battle. Thats our heritage, ladies.)
Hunting is an integral part of our lifestyle in the 49th state. Using guns isnt just recreation for us; its how many of us get our dinner.....

Tyrants Gun-Walking Attorney General:
This is not your parents' America.
Tomorrow, by your King's Executive Order
ONLY terrorists and the IRS will have guns
and DO"J" protection."
It’s not even the America that I gave my love to for 65 years.
If a Society morally deteriorates into Apathy, Blinding and Ignorance, than any who stand up to save it will cast out by the very people they wish to save.
Not Sarah, Not Ted Cruz, no one can save us if are not willing to save ourselves.
If we let Emperor OBamamus Maximums destroy us, it will be because we took his offer of Government Cheese, rather than pay the price of Freedom, which is eternal vigilance.

Thanks for this post.
We must encourage Mrs. Palin to stay in the arena!
Sell out our Liberty sell out our soul.

Yup, and once again the Liberal Agenda Media is shifting our attention away from the correct laws:
1. ) The Right of Americans to bear arms.
2.) The stupid 1992 law that prohibits loaded guns inside of a US Military building.
BTW, “the best defense against a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.”
Is there ANYONE surprised he came in with Hasan,
and since in office has defended the Cole terrorists,
the Saudis connected with Boston Atrocity,
and the al Qaeda (even arming them)?
I HEAR THAT!
I would just change it a little bit “ GOD, COUNTRY, CORPS “.
Where the bad guys use rifles, in 7.62x39, to shoot up a basketball game, but not killing anyone, whereas the Navy Yard killer used a shotgun, per Joe Biden’s admonition.

“Might I humbly suggest that we step back from the TV, take a breath, hug our kids, reach out to friends and neighbors, and say a prayer.”
Amen.
CNNs Don Lemon recently saw the light on this issue and highlighted the Centers for Disease Control study showing that so-called military assault rifles account for a small fraction of gun violence. The overwhelming majority of gun-related deaths are inflicted with handguns, but a ban on handguns is not only politically untenable; it would also hinder the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves (especially Americans who live in troubled urban areas where the police are slow to respond to emergency calls).Has any other public figure asked this question?Instead of offering real solutions based on facts, reactionary politicians offer us the politics of emotion, which is the opposite of leadership. It is the manipulation of the people by the political class for their own political ends. It is so very self-serving, but, worse, it is destructive.
The first thing politicians ask after these tragedies is essentially: What can we do to limit the freedom of the people?
And that is the wrong question. The question we should be asking is: What can we do to nurture and support a people capable of living in freedom?
Because instead of worrying about how many legal guns we can confiscate, THIS is the debate that should be occurring in the halls of Congress.
Even Hitlery put her hand over her heart, but not the Kenyan SOB.
...and, Ms. Palin... SHARE THE GOSPEL!!
BTTT!
The mind is the real dangerous weapon. Gun control diverts attention from the real problem: The neglect of the mentally ill. We need to treat the mind for the good of society and the good of those with mental illness.
I know its not fashionable to talk about moral values, but we need to do it. Even though our cultural leaders in Hollywood, network TV, and the national newspapers routinely jeer at them, I think most of us in this room know that some things are good and other things are wrong. And now, its time to make the discussion public.
Its time to talk again about the family, hard work, integrity, and personal responsibility. We cannot be embarrassed out of our belief that two parents married to each other are better in most cases for children than one. That honest work is better than handouts or crime. That we are our brothers keepers. That its worth making an effort, even when the rewards arent immediate. So, I think the time has come to renew our public commitment to our Judeo-Christian values in our churches and synagogues, our civic organizations, and our schools. We are, as our children recite each morning, one nation under God. Thats a useful framework for acknowledging a duty and an authority higher than our own pleasures and personal ambition.
If we live more thoroughly by these values, we would live in a better society. [applause] For the poor, renewing these values will give the people the strength to help themselves by acquiring the tools to achieve self-sufficiency, a good education, job training, and property. Then they will move from permanent dependence to dignified independence.
