What else are English majors supposed to do? (I can say that because I’m and English major)

Go back to your high school and bitch-slap your "counselor" for giving you a bum steer.

There are professional HR products that test aptitude and can give students a steer in the right direction, when the outcomes are put together with current salary and career-arc info. School counselors not doing that are stealing their paychecks.

I found my degree in English to be very useful when I worked in the operations department of a grain company and wrote budget justifications. Of course also having degrees in accounting and electrical engineering certainly helped.

I do write a lot to my Senator and Congressmen but you don’t need a degree to do that as it’s easier for them to understand if I keep the comprehension level at about the third grade.

Wait tables ad Denny’s. Denny’s has a high number of wait staff with bachelors and masters degrees so you will be working with your peers. Mind your mouth, manners and smile a lot and you should be successful in your new career. Try to suppress any NE accent or mannerisms as they annoying and distracting which will reduce your tips.

My daughter is an English major also, just graduated last year. She is teaching high school English - don’t really know what else she would do if she hadn’t gotten a teaching job.
