Senator Susan Collins say a proposal in Congress to slash food stamps funding would hurt Mainers who need it most.
House lawmakers passed a bill Thursday that would make around $4 billion dollars in cuts each year to the almost $80 billion dollar-a-year food stamp program.
Maine is among the top five states with the biggest share of people on food stamps at 18-percent.
Collins says the program needs to be reformed but the proposed cuts are too deep.
We have a lot of elderly people living in rural Maine who really depend on food stamps in order to get proper nutrition. We also have a lot of children living in poor families that are also dependent on food stamps.
Collins predicts the Senate will reject the cuts to the food stamp program.
I actually liked your post a lot better than I’ve liked most.
Not all of them are, which was my point.
Sorry senator Collins but food stamps have been turned into a giant bad joke as millions and millions of people now get them.
And many are able bodied and capable of working. You remember “work?” It’s a great concept. Makes for happy prosperous people. People who do t have to beg Obama’s trolls to put them on the dole. If you have needy people in Maine then take care of them in Maine Free food is not a federal function.
Now food stamps and welfare are for artists and others who will then be able to devote time to their endeavors without starving. Just ask Pelosi
What she is really saying is it would cut to deeply into her cut of the money.
How, then .. does the non-cash card work ?
If a person is only getting food stamps(SNAP), there is no cash availability. But someone who is getting both food stamps and welfare(SNAP and TANF,) does have cash availability on the welfare (TANF) portion.
How about spot-investigating the recipients....and then PROSECUTING the fraudsters?Collins is so dumb that when she went to buy a color TV I'll bet she asked the clerk what colors they come in.
Leni
I can’t ask pelosi. Her staff said they won’t answer any inquiries or letters unless your name is on their contributors list. This when she was majority leader and thus in a position to impact the entire nation ( such as “you’ll fi d out what’s in it after we pass it” commiecare. ).
