Morning Bell: Will Unions Want to Repeal Obamacare?

In a typical Friday afternoon “news dump,” the Treasury Department announced it could not grant unions’ request for another special Obamacare break.

This time, unions had lobbied the Administration to let union-run, multi-employer plans receive taxpayer-funded insurance subsidies on the new exchanges. These subsidies would be in addition to the tax break that multi-employer plans, like health plans offered by all employers, already receive.

Union leaders wrote to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in July asking for the Obamacare “fix,” stating that their progressive “vision has come back to haunt us”:

Private sector unions might. Government employee unions definitely will not. Since private sector unions represent a minuscule portion of employees, while most union members are government employees. Most of the time, private sector union employees have not realized that their interests are at cross purposes with those of government employees.

It’s simple. If union support was worth more than the hassle or negative impact of granting their rent seeking, they’d get what they wanted. If union support is lesser in value than the cost or impact of the grant, they won’t. Since the support the unions gave has already been “spent” so to speak, and they have, apparently, no further value to the administration, the answer is no. As somebody once said, “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”

The unions are, apparently, whores. The administration no longer needs their services, so they’re being sent back to the streets.

I still say this is all kabuki theatre....all part of the plan to install “universal healthcare” aka single payer.

No...what they'll do,initially,is quietly demand an exemption, which will usually be granted. If it's not their next step will be to *publicly* demand an exemption.

Yes the Unions get to unload their healthcare since they don't want to be a health-management system and they get to keep their Pensions where their real money and power is.....

Until they try to nationalize their pensions aka Teresa Ghilarducci's scheme...

Unions are not in the least interested in dumping Obamacare, they really only want a waiver so they do not have to participate, but keep the same plan and benefits they now have. That Obamacare stuff, that is for everybody else, not them. When their employer goes bust, the provisions of Obamacare will then be available as a “safety net”, but it is not one they want to get into right away.

And being subject to a wavier becomes a perk that is not available to “non-union” workers, a further reason that the non-aligned should join the union.

Obamacare as a recruiting strategy for unions, who knew that was slipped into the language of the bill as it was passed?

It is called being taken for granted, which they are. The difference between unions and other voting blocks is that unions fork over a large portion of their dues to fund the democrats.

It would be terrific to get strong bipartisan support ... esp the unions. I think O would concede rather than let that happen.

I’m thinking the unions will continue to back Democrats even if they don’t get all of what they want. Republicans (proper Republicans, not the kind we get these days) will (should) outlaw unions. They are communist organizations that are composed essentially of Mafia style enforcers who intimidate, harass, hurt or kill to get their way.

Also, the union bosses will get taken care of even as the membership starve to death.

The republicans are afraid of their shadows. I hope everyone is letting them know that if they don’t vote to rid us of ObamaCare that they just may lose the house and forever lose the senate.
