MOSCOW An argument in southern Russia over philosopher Immanuel Kant, the author of "Critique of Pure Reason," devolved into pure mayhem when one debater shot the other. A police spokeswoman in Rostov-on Don, Viktoria Safarova, said two men in their 20s were discussing Kant as they stood in line to buy beer at a small store on Sunday. The discussion deteriorated into a fistfight and one participant pulled out a small nonlethal pistol and fired repeatedly. The victim was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. Neither person was identified. It was not clear which of Kant's ideas may have triggered the violence.

That could cause some problems one would think
The non lethal handgun. Look up “kinetic pistols”. Allowed in Russia. Like a standard pistol but fires some sort of hard rubber bullets. Cant fire real ones.
Actually sounds like a lot of fun in a way.
We live in a country where people are shot over their sneaks; the idea of a country in which people are more likely to get shot over abstract philosophical questions almost sounds refreshing/charming...
Actually, it really doesn’t, surprisingly. Besides, in the Czech Republic at least, lots of people have real guns, and getting a CW permit is entirely possible.
It’s not as easy as some states, mind you, but you can get one.
Do any philosophy courses mention Thomas Reid of the Scottish school?
Baikal MP 461,, a little can of whoop ass.
You do have to admit, however, that is somehow “better” than arguing about money, who does the housework, sports teams, how much to pay for illegal drugs, and so on.
I only came into the thread to see how long it would take to post. :o)
When you kill someone over philosophy, Descartes you off to jail.
Was obviously too much of an intellectual discussion for this guy. Some intellectual discussions need to be confined to classrooms or at least the right target audience.
A shooting because of an argument over philosophers rather than the normal gang shooters about 18th century poets.
1)Kant held that logic and causality - principles essential to the integration mode of thought- are baseless; neither can be derived from sense data of validated by reason, whether this base is conceived in Platonic or in Aristotelian fashion.
2)Kant rejects out of hand Aristotle's theory that concepts derive from percepts. On the contrary, concepts, or at least the world-shaping ones, come first; and percepts are their product Such concepts Kant points out, cannot be validated by observation,or by rationalist deduction from so-called "self evident" insights.
3) reality is unknowable (but Kant knows that the truth of his theory is knowable)
Kant's philosophy is not a set of affirmations, worldly or otherworldly, but of negations:
1) in metaphysics, Kant denies the reality of this world in favor of a higher realm, but in favor of a realm inconceivable to human consciousness.
2) in epistemology, Kant condemns man's consciousness as impotent to grasp real truth, because it requires an means of consciousness.
3) in ethics,Kant put an end to the morality of the Enlightenment by unleashing the code of self-sacrifice in its pure form.He claimed that a moral action is an end in itself rather than the means to end.
His philosophy is evil because the modern products of his philosophy are pragmatism, skepticism, and nihilism which libtards happily use constantly.
Here is this country people kill each other over who took the last piece of KFC.
Or over ice cream
I prefer Churches Chicken
Brazil is based on Kant, no? ordo e progresso
They obviously weren’t talking about Voltaire.
That might be a better thing to die over.
What about Popeye’s?
