Last week, while walking through Union Square in Manhattan, 62-year-old Jeffrey Babbitt, a retired train conductor who was the caretaker for his 94-year-old mother, was killed by Lashawn Marten, a black man over 20 years his junior who declared his intention just seconds before he punched Babbitt in the head to hurt the first white person he encountered.
Two days later, a white passenger on a bus passing through Harlem was assaulted by another passenger for being a “cracker.” The 31-year-old assailant struck his victim so hard that, according to the New York Post, “he smashed the bones in his face,” “breaking his nose and eye socket.”
Both the rate and ferocity of black-on-white violence is nothing short of a national scandal. All decent Americans, and certainly all those who claim to care about race relations, should be as attentive to and concerned about this phenomenon as they are attentive to and concerned about anything else.
Not everyone sees it this way. Below are three objections that are commonly stated.
Objection #1: Blacks don’t have a monopoly on violence and whites don’t have a monopoly on being the victims of violence. Violence is part of the human condition. So, why should we attach more importance to this kind of violence than we attach to all sorts of other kinds?
Reply: Of course, what is said here is true. Still, that blacks constitute a small minority of America and yet comprise, overwhelmingly, the majority of perpetrators of interracial crime is, or should be, more than enough to convince the thoughtful that black-on-white violence is a very real problem.
Moreover, it isn’t just the interracial violence here itself that is a grave cause of concern, but the especially savage character that this violence all too often assumes. Just a cursory perusal of any random selection of black-on-white attacks readily reveals the mercilessness that an alarming number of black predators show toward their white prey.
Objection #2: Granted, black-on-white violence is a reality, but it is a reality begotten by a legacy of slavery and Jim Crow. If there are blacks who hate whites, it is because there were first whites who hated blacks. As the title of a 1960s television broadcast on The Nation of Islam put it, black animus toward whites is “the hate that hate produced.”
Reply: As scholars black, white, and other have repeatedly demonstrated, the dysfunction that marks the black underclass today was either non-existent or far less pronounced in years past—i.e. at times not as far removed from slavery and during which racial discrimination against blacks was both more ubiquitous and more overt.
This consideration aside, if the proponents of this objection were made to say aloud the implications of their position, the shame and ridicule that it invites just might force them to abandon it.
According to this line of reasoning, the following victims of black-on-white violence would still be alive and unharmed had it not been for a history of racial oppression:
-Jeffrey Babbitt;
-Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, a young white couple that had been abducted, repeatedly raped, tortured, and murdered by five blacks;
-Brad Heyka, Jason Befort, Aaron Sander, and Heather Muller, four whites who were robbed, beaten, sexual humiliated, raped, and murdered by two black brothers;
-Kristen Huggins, a 22-year-old college graduate and aspiring artist who was carjacked, sodomized, robbed, and killed by a bullet to her head fired by a black career criminal;
-Antonio Santiago, a 17-month-old baby shot dead in the face by two black thugs;
-Jonathan Foster, a 12-year-old white boy taken from his home and killed by a blowtorch wielding black woman;
-Delbert Benton, an 89-year-old WWII veteran beaten to death by two black teenagers; and
-Fannie Gumbinger, a 99-year-old woman beaten to death by a 20-year-old black man who burglarized her home.
It is with the greatest of ease that to this list, scores of other names could be added. But the point is this: If “the legacy of slavery and discrimination” argument is to be believed, then we are expected to believe that in the absence of this “legacy,” legions of innocent white children, white women, and the elderly who have been brutalized by black thugs would be with us today.
Objection #3: The race of the perpetrators and victims of these horrible crimes is irrelevant.
Reply: If this is true, then so too is race irrelevant while discussing America’s past. After all, if it is slavery that is immoral, then the races of master and slave are immaterial. And if it is immoral to segregate people along the lines of race, then it is irrelevant whether the segregationists are white or non-white.
There is no point mentioning that the Ku Klux Klan consisted of white supremacists who sought to torment blacks. Deserving of condemnation is not white supremacy, but any sort of supremacy, not the tormenting of blacks, but the tormenting of anyone.
But if race is relevant to discussions of American slavery and segregation, then it most certainly is relevant to speak of race in connection with most interracial violence in America at present.
And it most certainly is mandatory that all morally committed people start assigning this issue the priority that it deserves.

Then here’s some more truth: violent crime in the US is decreasing. It has been for a long time. And YOU, not the police, not the legislature, not TSA, have a responsibility to defend YOU. Go get a gun, start carrying it, and stop worrying.

I flipped houses in primarily black areas. I came very close to shooting 3 young black yutes over a period of 6 months, others stayed away because I was openly armed.
I quit buying houses in the 'hood, because I knew it was only a short period of time before I was going to kill or be killed. I didn't desire either outcome.
I still carry all the time, but the Zimmerman circus is an example of why whites are careful as to how they go about exposing themselves.
I think we are seeing a reaction to blatant favoritism of affirmative action for nearly everyone except white males, the constant drumbeat of excuses for bad actions on the part of black people, and the direct attack on merit.
The fact that a person who is approached on the street is statistically far more likely to be attacked by a black man than a white man is called racism, even though it is true.
Truth is not racism.
What is needed is effective and evenhanded application of justice. The fact that this does not occur in the urban centers run mostly by liberals is a national disgrace.
Black people cannot depend on the criminal justice system in the urban centers. This feeds on itself and results in more criminality, with the results seen.
The whole liberal edifice depends on embracing false ideas about reality, in turn this helps prevent any real solutions.
I am probably the biggest “profiler” out there and do not care if they are black, white, brown or purple.
I profile them and go by their looks and the way they act, walk and eye ball me.
The 7 yard rule is the rule I live by and I pack at least two sidearms ALWAYS and plenty ammo to go around.
I hear about the “polar bear” hunters in the big cities and think it is a crying shame these animals are not blown in half by a person carrying a 1911 with some serious ordinance. I am sure the poor “polar bear” would be put through the same crap that GZ went thru but hey, drop the hammer when it is called for in my opinion.

And it's not such a small minority. Wikipedia gives a 29% chance of a black born in the USA in 1991 of seeing jail time. That's not 'relatively small'.

Very true. If the slave traders had a stock of non-black, primitive, able bodied humans to work with, then they would have been used as slaves. It’s well past time for black to stop punishing whites as an excuse for their own shortcomings. If all whites are guilty of enslaving blacks, then all blacks are guilty of killing and torturing whites with their lame and ignorant excuses.
No need for terrorist groups like the Klan. All that is needed is for white people to stop depending on the law to protect them. Do what needs to be done.

That's debatable but lets take it to be true. As you say so What? A majority of blacks are racial and expect that they can be so. A majority of blacks refuse to criticize any black so in turn support all kinds of racial and anti white crap, violence or otherwise. A majority of blacks are African-American and relish that. So it isn't just about the violence although that is certainly important it is about race and is in no way a minority of the black population.
While its statistically true that blacks commit more violent crimes than whites, I ask the question again: what does this knowledge get us? We aren’t going to start locking up blacks because they’re black.
More to the point, what are you doing about preventing violent crime in your own little corner of the world? Your about page indicates that you’re from AZ which has some of the best gun laws in the country and open carry there is common. Do you carry openly, or do you leave your safety up to the benevolence of the local government?

40% of black males, teenagers and adults, have at one point been convicted of a felony. And that is a very hard statistic to compile. While a large percentage of those felony convictions has been for drugs, it does not mitigate the underlying principle.
If you count those black men you know who are *not* criminal, it pretty well leaves you facing the proposition that each unknown black man you see on the street is just a coin flip. Of course it is situational, in that in some parts of the country few black men, if any, have criminal tendencies; but in other parts, it approaches near 100%.
I will also add that concealed carry provides far more tactical advantages than does open carry. And in a situation where I had to draw by cc gun, in my other hand would be a fighting knife.

It is very seldom that I am not carrying. I was carrying before we had the shall issue law in Arizona.
You do not have to convince me on the merits of carrying. I propose that we push for more law abiding black people to carry.
Maybe then they would not feel such a need to respond to peer pressure to not be a snitch.
A majority of black people are not criminals. If we could convince them that they would be treated reasonably fairly by the courts, it would be a big step forward in race relations.
If more of them carried, and it they found that they could not be illegally deprived of that right, maybe we could make some progress.
