Liberals just hate it when someone uses their own arguments against them.
Members of the Washington establishment were quick to denounce Vladimir Putins op ed article in Thursdays New York Times questioning the legitimacy and legality of a U.S. attack on Syria. The White House quickly dismissed his column as irrelevant and a sideshow to the real issues at stake. The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said that Putins column made him want to vomit. Several other members of Congress, including Sen. McCain and Rep. Boehner, have denounced the column. Pundits have also weighed in against Mr. Putins intervention into the American debate over Syria. Many tweeters and texters have criticized the Times for daring to publish a column by the Russian President that is critical of President Obama and U.S. policy abroad.
There is an unspoken sub-text at play here: what President Putin said in his column is pretty much what American liberals and leftists have been saying about the United States since the 1960s. From the standpoint of American liberals, there is nothing the least bit new or controversial in anything Mr. Putin wrote in his column. He is merely hoisting President Obama and his liberal friends by their own ideological petard.
Putin made three general points:

dfwgator ~ I'm no fan of JFK, but that being said, Obama isn't worthy to lick JFK's boots.
I'm no fan of Carter either, but that being said, Obama isn't worthy to lick Carter's boots.
Yup. Putin slapped Barry with his own little glove.
“From the standpoint of American liberals, there is nothing the least bit new or controversial in anything Mr. Putin wrote in his column.”
Because they’re all communists.
I see Putin’s references to God as about as sincere as Obama’s attendance Reverend Wright’s church. They do this for political reasons; it’s cynical. I know a lot of conservatives find Putin’s comments comforting, but they forget that Putin worked for the KGB long after the details of the Gulag were well known. Certainly, he being in the KGB knew the horrors. Yet he consider the collapse of the USSR the worst event in the 20th Century, not WWI, not the Bolshevik Revolution, not WWII, not the Holocaust, and not the Gulag. I’d be more convinced that Putin’s found Jesus if he’d stop killing his political opponents. But hey, that’s just me. I’m a conservative that doesn’t get swayed by mere rhetoric.
I knew mentioning JFK with Obama would get the conditioned response, but if you were alive during his administration, then you would remember the same Obama like bungling of JFK.
These recent weeks reminds me of JFK’s total incompetence and ignorance and the way the Russian leaders outclassed him on the field.
So far Obama hasn’t shown evidence that he could do as badly as JFK did in this area.
If this were written by Paul Krugman, Robert Reich, Noam Chomsky, or the NYT editorial page, liberals wouldn’t disagree with a single word of it. That’s why it makes them squirm.
Wait a sec. If Putin is making arguments consistent with those of leftists and liberals since the 1960s, then why do so many Freepers seem to agree with him?
Agree. It’s only because it’s Putin using their logic and values that they’re upset.
I have to hope that those Freepers who admire Putin do so because they like seeing someone pushing back against Obama. I don’t need Putin to affirm my values or my resistance to Obama.
A big red, white and blue one.
I like Putin.......If only because Obama got
B’slapped by him!
The MSM can keep praising the emperor’s magical invisible clothes, but they can’t hide that fact that the entire world sees that Obama is buck naked on the world stage.
I agree with all you said about Putin.
It’s sad though that he is speaking the rhetoric whether he believes it or not.
He is really mocking Obama in a big way.
Carter must be very relieved to know he will not be the worst president we’ve elected.
“Where is our next Ronald Reagan?”
How about in your mirror. Attend a village council or schoolboard meeting and give them hell. Rescue your children from the communists in your neighborhood.
“They do this for political reasons; its cynical.”
Really? So you read Russian minds. Can you also bend spoons with your mind?
“Id be more convinced that Putins found Jesus if hed stop killing his political opponents.”
Let me guess. You’re a Hillary/Navalny supporter. Do you also back the anti-Jewish BDS movement? I bet you do. I’ve run across a good number of you leftist trolls when I did contract work for Israeli companies.
A little background: The Nazi Soros and his Russian bankers tried to strip Russia of its treasure. Putin stepped in and stopped them. He arrested a number of Soros bankers and threw them in prison. Then Russia issued an arrest warrant for Soros that still stands today.
The New World Order neo-cons are pissed that Putin locked up a few of their elitist buddies.
I look forward to your ad hominem attacks after you consult with your Open Society masters at Media Matters.
Done. AND my kids go to private school on top of that. Our local township has tried to raise taxes for schools three elections in a row. The vote has gotten CREAMED each time. You can bet I was involved. At least one local principle is not in my fan club. I announced her salary and the value of her benefits when she complained about the lack of money to hire teachers and run the busses. She made $97K base and her bennies were listed at an additional 25K. If they got the tax increase, there was a $20K "bonus" listed on the leaked document for her. Mind you, she only works 9 months out of the year and has a very liberal vacation and PTO schedule.
