Are you nuts, Mr. Putin? The United States is exceptional

President Putin, the United States is exceptional among the world’s nations.

This is not the usual jingoism you may hear from the citizen of any nation – the type of jingoism, incidentally, in which Russia excels.

Instead, Mr. President, take it from someone whose family fled your country over 30 years ago because of religious and ethnic persecution.

My parents and I arrived in the United States with $90 in our pockets, speaking not a word of English and stripped of any nation’s citizenship. And yet we came here because the United States is exceptional in the opportunities it has provided to generations of those who arrived at its ports with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the drive to succeed as Americans.

We came here because life in the Soviet Union, which you served so faithfully as a KGB colonel, was incompatible with basic human dignity.

We came here because generations of our family had been killed, abused and disenfranchised simply because of our religious identity.

To us, what was exceptional was that a world power would provide a new life for us without asking about our ethnicity, whether we were members of the right political party or whether we associated with those who spoke out against the government.

That the United States asked us none of these things is what makes it exceptional – and what made the former Soviet Union, which you served so proudly, unexceptional in its generations-long oppressive nature.

There is not, coincidentally, a mass movement of any oppressed ethnic or religious minority to flee the United States, to Russia or anywhere else.

And Putin seems quite supportive of the UN.

Is this supposed to be troubling? Right now, the UN is cautioning Obama and Kerry not to launch an American war in Syria. I consider that good advice.

What Putin said in context: "There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal."

In context Putin is saying that democratic republics like the USA are not better than autocratic tyrannies like Russia and Syria.

The US is in grave danger of ceasing to be exceptional.

You sound like one of those people who think Iraq was better off with Saddam in charge and Bush committed war crimes because he didn't get UN permission.

Nothing but anti-American commie BS.

you want a US war in Syria, don’t you? Just like Kerry and Obama. Thank God most Americans strongly disagree

All Obama wants to do is whatever Putin tells him to do, just like you.

Give up, you’re debating a hateful fanatic who thinks he’s discovered that Putin is a bad guy, an enemy, and everyone in the world must agree with him (the fanatic), or else move to Russia as he told me to do, since according to him I’m anti-American. A real lovely North Korean type.

Obama wants a war in Syria, like you.

Putin has told him it’s a bad idea, which it is. You and Obama have a very bad idea in wanting another US war in the Middle East. But, sorry to say this, you don’t sound like a very intelligent person. So I’m not going to waste my time with any more responses.

No Obama wants to humiliate and prostrate the USA before our enemies. That’s what he’s done and what you are happy about.

Did Putin hear Obama say that the United States is Exceptional. I never heard Obama say that.

Reagan said it and lived it for sure, Onama, meh.

Obama thinks the United States is a cesspool of Bigots and stupid people who need Government Bureaucrats to make their mind right.

You show me where I have expressed adoration for Putin (or for anyone.) Absurd accusations, mind reading and seeking of enemies. Great job!

America isn't the world's policemen, that is all Putin was saying!

The idea that the Elites are now telling us is that the U.S. is responsible for stopping the spread of WMD's.

Who gave us that responsiblity?

Obama was talking about bombing a sovereign nation and then claiming it wasn't an act of war!

Does America think it lives by a different set of rules then the rest of the world?

Our nations’s exceptionalism began from one clear factor that stands by itself and above all others.... our founding fathers proclaimed that we should be ...“one nation under God”..and with the exception of Israel’s covenant with God, no other nation in history placed themselves under the almighty hand of God.

Furthermore.... Our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution rests on ‘the foundation’ that there IS a Supreme Being and that ‘He is the source’ of our inalienable rights..... Our founding fathers would have never imagined this nation would “alter the course of its Christian direction” as we have seen it do time and again over the years....where once ‘the standard of measure’ was understood to be Judeo Christian values based on the Bible.

It is NOT that our exceptionalism has made us great....it is God’s blessings as a reward for our “exceptional efforts” at reaching for God’s goodness among us, in our governance and throughout our country that has made us Exceptional...without Him, and this nation looking to Him,..we will continue to see this nation erode and evil players as Putin and others like him take us for a ride.

For me it is troubling. I can’t answer for you or others. The UN is very troubling to me.

Putin’s strength, along with his claimed support of the UN...frightens me.

I have been tempted by Putin and Russia even before all this Syria mess exploded.

I caught myself looking longingly at some of the Russian policies, admiring Putin’s strength and knowing the whole damn time that I was deceiving myself.

I realized that I had best quit indulging and entertaining such notions.

I am very apprehensive and distrustful of Putin, even if he has some qualities I can admire.

I just remind myself— woe, woe

Frankly Putins words were not his own....he’s playing his ‘propaganda’ cards to the American people because Obama has left a vacum for him to fill....meanwhile China stands aside while Obama and Putin duke it out... And make no mistake...China clearly wants Syria and Iran to call their own.

Putin didn’t say anything that wasn’t already stated by many others..including Obamas quote he turned around on him...he simply wants in the game...and we have only Obama to blame for letting him play his hand.

So Putin, to his advantage, has simply played his hand, and that was handed to him by this administration.
