Vince Gill did something on Sunday that not many country singers are willing to do: he courted controversy. Prior to a concert in Kansas City, Missouri, Gill confronted protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, who were picketing outside his concert to protest his divorce and remarriage, which they hold to be nothing more than a form of adultery. The church, which is nonaffiliated, has also protested against gays and Jews and at the funerals of U.S. soldiers killed in combat, in the belief that God is punishing the nation for its immorality.
At Kansas Citys Kauffman Center for the Arts, Gill walked up to the picket line where people carried placards saying, God Is Americas Terror.
Vince Gill, what in the world are you doing out here? a woman on the line asked.
I just came to see what hate looked like, he said.
Well, more importantly, the woman said, what are you doing with another mans wife?
I came out to see what hatred really looked like in the face.
Dont you know that divorce plus remarriage equals adultery? the woman asked. Jesus Christ said that.
Did he? Gill responded. You know what else he said? He said a lot of stuff about forgiveness, about grace. You guys dont have any of that.

At the end of this video, Gill asks: “Are any of you guys Phelpses? Or are you guys like the C team?”

two wrongs don’t make a right
he was wrong for the divorce remarriage thing
the idiots picketing his show are wrong in so many ways it ain’t funny
but Vince and Amy are wrong and should not have broken up two families to satisfy their lust
Is it hate or greed? These people are only doing it for the money, and there beliefs don’t make any sense, much less conform to Christianity.
In before the self-righteous holy church lady preachers on high horses!
Oops, I see I’m late. Harper Valley PTA beat me again.
These people are probably best ignored, but disagreeing with them doesn’t really seem to qualify as “courting controversy.”
Go Vince!
but Vince and Amy are wrong and should not have broken up two families to satisfy their lust
Amy Grant’s ex, Gary Chapman, had some major drug issues when they were married. I don’t blame her for getting out of that marriage. Chapman sure seemed to be a Phony Christian
Westboro Cult must be running out of issues going after a couple who have been married over 15 yrs
she took a vow
for better or for worse
the addiction was the for worse part
what part of that does she not get
I didn’t know about the addiction thing, but one thing that always bothered me was her insistence that she never have to give up her career. Had I done the same, my husband and I would likely be divorced today, and I’m just a nurse, not a “star”. Gary stayed home with the kids a lot. Right or wrong, there are two sides to every story and we don’t know either of them very well. Maybe the addiction was trying to cope with the feelings of frustration and himself not providing for his family. Oh, yeah, I forgot...we’re liberated from all that, aren’t we? But, as Christians, wrong decisions made for good reasons are still wrong decisions. PERIOD!
She is a narcissist as are most “stars” and will have to deal with God on the fact that she did not even try to keep her vow once tempted with a big rich “star”.
I cannot stand her and consider all her efforts tainted. I bet she doesn’t even believe in God or how could she do what she did
If the Westboro Baptists had any “cred” they would protest a gay-pride parade.
“If the Westboro Baptists had any cred they would protest a gay-pride parade.”
Oh...they do!
Didn’t Gary Chapman host a show on TNN?
Agreed. Jesus is cited in three of the four gospels stating that remarriage after divorce (except for adultery or abandonment by an unbeliever) is in fact adultery.
I’m no fan of the Phelps family, but they have accurately cited Scripture. The Christian church in general is hypocritical in preaching so much against homosexuality, but glossing over the remarriage/adultery issue.
I’m still convinced that the Phelps gang are agents of the radical Left meant to discredit those who stand for Christian values.
The Devil can quote Scripture as well.
she took a vow
oh really - were you at her wedding? how do you know what vows she took?
And if she wasn’t married in ‘the church’ it wasn’t a real wedding in any case.
