Gee, some folks here must’ve been absent from Sunday School when they covered ‘ye without sin cast the first stone’ and ‘you point out the speck in your brother’s eye but ignore the stick in yours’. Jesus said lots of things - don’t pick and choose the ones that are convenient.
Ephesians 5:25-28 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
So, exactly what were the reasons Christ gave to leave a marriage then? Could it be that a man who fails to love his wife as Christ loves His church, nor does that man love his wife as himself (drug abuse, physical abuse, etc..) qualify for divorce?
Unlike others, I won't pretend to speak for Christ on this topic. I cannot however envision that our Lord and Savior would want His children to remain in an abusive, destructive relationship. That just doesn't make sense.
