UPDATE 2-U.S. House Republicans delay vote on spending, 'Obamacare' after split

(Reuters) - A Republican plan aimed at averting a government shutdown in less than three weeks ran into a wall of opposition on Wednesday from conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives, and leaders delayed any votes on it until at least next week.

The plan, derided as a "trick" by some conservatives, would have let them cast an essentially symbolic vote to defund "Obamacare" healthcare reforms without risking a shutdown, feared by party leaders who remember the political damage they suffered when government offices shut their doors in the mid-1990s.

The move in the House is the latest indication a Republican right-wing revolt will complicate Congress' efforts to deal with looming fiscal deadlines over government spending and the debt limit.

The conflict is part of what is being called a "civil war" within the Republican Party, energized in part by anti-Obamacare rallies and Tea Party gatherings during the August recess and the organizing efforts of the conservative Heritage Action, a sister to the conservative Heritage Foundation.

Shutting down the government did not damage the Republican party in the 1990’s. It resulted in balanced budgets and “ending welfare as we know it”.

They need to stop repeating that lie.

The Republicans suffered “political damage” in the 90s because the old bulls loudly trumpeted that assertion to the press and the press was happy to quote them. It will happen thaqt way again as the Boehner/Cantor Republican Party sees a chance to maim the Conservatives as happened in the 90s.

Get some balls, GOP-e.

The Clown is massively unpopular right now. The economy is a disaster, we’re a laughingstock overseas...and there is a dunce running the executive branch.

Let your testicles drop, and do some strong arming.

And don’t buckle.

Shutting down the gubmint for a few months would SERIOUSLY hurt the Unions with the lack of SEIU Dues, which funnel taxpayer money to the DNC.

The real way to curtail runaway Federal wasting of money is to FORBID Public Employees from paying Union Dues, because TAXPAYERS are forced to pay their wages, and should NOT be allowing their (taxpayers) money to be sent on to the DNC.

“The move in the House is the latest indication a Republican right-wing revolt will complicate Congress’ efforts to deal with looming fiscal deadlines over government spending and the debt limit.”

Actually, Harry Reid and Obama’s willingness to shut down the entire federal government to preserve Obamacare is the complication. The house will fund the rest of the government. But Reid and Obama will not accept that.

We have to start getting that message out.

what is all this ‘damage’ they talk about from when the government shut down in the 1990’s...???

If I remember it correctly, NO ONE EVEN NOTICED! and Reagan went on to win a 2nd term in a landslide.

Sent Cantor an absolutely blistering email today on this (and one on Syria, too). My laptop is still smoking. Just in case no one is reading emails (likely), his office is getting a phone call tomorrow, too .... I’m going to try not to start immediately screaming at the person answering the phone. I’m so pi$$ed I’m beyond the ability to rationally convey the totality of my disgust with him and the Repubs for being such sniveling cowards at the expense of America while trying to save their sorry hides.

Reagan went on to win a 2nd term in a landslide.

Since Reagan was from California, it was a mud slide.

I’m sorry to break it to everyone, but this is probably little more than kabuki theater with a predetermined outcome.

"A Republican plan aimed at averting a government shutdown..."

Let me translate this: A RINO plan for a desired defeat based on the cowardice and stupidity of the GOP "leadership". I say desired defeat, because the RINOs are only interested in the increase of their own power and political career. They desire the vast increase of the power of the Federal Government as represented by the implementation of ObamaCare. Screw their voters, screw the Constitution, pave the way for totalitarianism, as long as they get theirs. That's all they care about.

5 GOP representatives support Obama's attack on Syria. 3 of these representatives are the GOP "leadership", who lead no one. That's Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy. Disgusting.

Our congresscritters don’t have a dog in the fight when it comes to Obamacare — they are exempted from it.

The sequestration resulted in no problems other than when Obama targeted cuts to hurt people, which he did. Other than that, there is such a tremendous amount of fat in the budget, that nobody should be hurt at all.

Seriously, if the fat man is sucking down a hundred cheeseburgers a day, he is not going to miss them, even if he eats none.

Here is the rinos chance to officially side with the dems. I guarantee that if someone challenged Boner for speaker and it looked like Boner would lose, the rinos would vote with the democrats and elect Pelosi.
